Question:
Just had my surgery yesterday, curious how the weight loss is for the first month?

The first month after having my surgery, I lost 20 lbs the first month. It
has been four months now and I have lost a total of 53.5 lbs. The first two
months the weight came off at an average of 20 lbs. Just do as your Dr. and
nurses tell you and you will be fine.

Sometimes the weight comes off quickly the first month, other times it will
not. That first month your body is healing and it has a tendency to hold
on to all the water that was pumped into you during your surgery and
sometimes it takes 2-3 weeks for anybody to lose a pound, and sometimes
people even have a gain. It's very hard to say how your weight loss will
go. Sip sip sip, walk walk walk! Welcome to the losers bench!

I had RNY and lost 30 lbs the first month. My Dr said 20 lbs is the norm.
Best of luck to you!

I had the Duodenal Switch and with the DS you normally lose 60-80% of your
total excess body fat overall, I have lost 95%. The first month I lost 23%
of my excess, for an 81# loss.
I checked my information and from what I have red you will lose about a lb
a week with the band. There might be some water retention at first though
so you will not lose much but the water weight will come off soon and you
will be on track.
Good luck, -Jaime

I am 3 months post op and I lost 15 pounds in the first month. Everyone is
different so try not to compare yourself, just follow the rules. The weight
will come off.

My first month I lost 40, but like they said before, it depends overall,
how much you have to lose, the more you need to lose, the faster the weight
comes off....at first.

I just had my surgery 12/10. I am actually up 5 pounds in two days. I
think it's all water weight and bloating, b/c I sure have not eaten
anything!

Like you I was unsure as to how fast the weight comes off. It depends on
the individual. I am three weeks post op and have lost 18.5 pounds. I am
excited about what is to come. I can already see the difference in myself
and how things fit. Best of luck. Brenda

I also just had my lap gastric bypass on Dec. 10. I had read about people
gaining immediately post op, so didn't really expect any big results right
off the bat. However, I went for my pulmonary rehab this morning -- which
requires a weigh in. To my surprise I had lost 5.8 pounds in just 5 days.
I was so excited!!
But I would think that the more you have to lose, the faster it will come
off in the first couple of months. I'll be happy with 15 - 20 pounds this
first month after seeing what happened in just 5 days.
