Question:
Any solid food diet breakfast ideas?

I'm on the solid food diet and am soo over eggs and eggbeaters. I was told that protein shakes are a no now and don't know what else to eat for breakfast. Any ideas? Thank you.    — bluefrogs53 (posted on December 6, 2009)

I'm not sure exactly what you have in mind, but there is a "Special K - protein plus" cereal by Kellogg's that contains 10 grams of protein per serving.

Try Lowfat cottage cheese, or ff cream cheese spread on lowfat deli meat and roll it up. Protein bars are okay but check with your Nut about which one would be good for you, mine likes the Zone bars (me too):)

Kashi makes an oatmeal now that has 8 grams of protein per individual envelope and its full of fiber and nutrition. I eat that with a Wal-Mart brand yogurt which as 6 grams of protein. So 14 grams of protein isn't too bad..I had RNY surgery 1.5 years ago and lost 222 pounds. Good luck.

My favorite solid food breakfast consists of one scrambled egg and 1/2 cup hot oatmeal bran cereal with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. If you can only hold 1/2 or 1/3 cup of food, (I have a VSG so I can hold about 1 cup max) you can just eat the hot cereal. I buy my oat bran in bulk. It is really easy to cook. You take 1/2 cup of water and a smidge of salt (if you want) and bring that to a boil. Add 1/6 cup oat bran and stir in, lower heat to medium and stir for two minutes, take off heat and let stand 1 minute. It's ready to eat! Some people like skim milk on it, I don't. After oat bran, you never will want to go back to regular oatmeal. So much flavor!

I eat a pack of whole grain instant oatmeal to which I add 1/3 cup milk powder and some raisins. This increases the protein and iron content. Sometimes I eat a slice of whole wheat toast with peanut butter. Try and eat what you like just make sure it has protein.

eggbeaters are filling and low cal. If you don't like them, try fresh eggs..whites. about 15 cals in one. microwave them for no cals from butter etc. I add a lil cheese and its quite good. Hugs, Kim

I had RNY 2 years ago and have pretty much the same breakfast: yogurt and real oatmeal (no instant for me). I make it a little soupier and add protein powder to thicken. I then add some sf apple sauce. I love it!

I know you said you're really "over" Egg Beaters - but my favorite is one serving of Egg Beaters, with half a piece of Wal Mart's Great Value Fat Free Turkey Breast Lunchmeat diced up, and 15 grams of Weight Watchers 4-cheese Mexcian shredded cheese, and 1/4 cup of diced mushrooms all scrambled together. I add a half of a small banana, and 1/3 of a cup of sliced strawberries with Splenda sprinkled on them. It's very filling, and different than just plain eggs or Egg Beaters. When I'm feeling particularly confident, I also like the Kashi Vanilla-flavored Oatmeal. It's very high fiber and delicious with a packet of Splenda in it, or some dried blueberries!

I had lap-band in Sept. My favorite breakfast is to take a portobello mushroom and slice it and saute it in a non-stick frying pan. I season it with some of Penzy's spices, especially the Greek seasoning. Once the mushrooms were done I add one egg to the pan and 'fry' it. Since I don't do bread, this is a great way to have your 'fried' egg and no bread!
