Question:
two weeks out and I have a plato is this common?
I had me surgery RNY June 29th lost 13 pounds the frist two weeks and have been the same for the last four days. I drink my water get my protien in , and walk every night. Is it common in the early stages to have a plato? I know I'm doing something because I fit in to a old pair of pants. I thought I would try them on and they zipped up. I sometimes feel I'm doing something wrong, and what bathers me the most is people always asking me how much have you lost now. I know it's not going to be over night. I also know my body is still healing and needs to catch up. I just was wondering if getting a plato this soon is something that happens or am just driving myself crazy thinking I'm doing something wrong. — theresa.lampkin (posted on July 16, 2009)

Hi,
Everybody is dIfferent, I had an 8 day plateau after the first 2 weeks. I
had surgery March 9th and have had steady weight loss after that first
plateau ended. As long as you continue doing what you're doing you are
losing fat even if the scales haven't moved. Hang in there. Kevin

Yes, it is so frustrating! I hit a stall for almost 3 weeks, I started to
question whether I should have even got the surgery, but finally I dropped
3 lbs. and was really thrilled, and have been gradually losing since!

My suggestion is to quit weighing yourself all the time. I didn't even own
a scale and just learned my weight when I went to the doctor's. I knew I
was loosing simply because my clothes were falling off. This way everytime
I got on the doctor's scale I had lost a lot and didn't worry about
plateaus. Also, when people would ak me how much I'd lost I could
truthfully say I wasn't sure but "I know it's a lot."

Yes it is frustrating. I had my surgery on July 1st and actually in the
first week weighed in 13 lbs lighter. Then for the next week lost 3 lbs
gained a lb last 2 lbs and then got my period and went and weighed in at
the Dr office and only lost 16 lbs at the 16th day. I was frustrated
because I had heard others loose more and I hung around that weight
fluctuating for the week. Then to my suprise got up this a.m. and lost 4
lbs...weird. Now I am 20 lbs and its 17 days since my surgery and I
finally feel like I am moving. I was getting nervous that all I would lose
was the weight from the surgery and not eating much the first week. I have
been scared that my body would even challenge the bariatric surgery and not
loose weight like when I use to diet and the weight wouldn't come off (I
remember I went on a two week slim fast diet, having 5-6 slim fasts a
day...and I lost 3 lbs) that is when I stopped dieting. I knew my body
just would not let go of the weight. I am so excited to say that this a.m.
the scale showed 20 lbs...YEAH...It will do the same for you just hold on!

I had VSG surgery and I lost 14 lbs in the first week or so and then
platoed for a little bit and then I started losing againg and then I plato
again and then I start losing again. I seem to cycle like this. Exercise
definetly boost the weight loss.

Hi, I had my RNY on July 6 and lost 19 lbs in the first 2 weeks. Since
then, I've been at the same weight + or - 1 lb. every day. I'm following
the diet as I should and I'm walking. I've started to get really
discouraged so I'm glad I found your question to know that I'm not alone.
I think your body starts to hold onto everything because it thinks it's
starving (compared to what we were taking in before). Hopefully the weight
will start to come off soon.
