Question:
Should I cut my long hair off before surgery for the hair loss?
I keep reading about the hair loss so that wont be a surprise but Ive not cut my hair for 30 yrs except to trim. Would I do better if I cut my hair very short. Would that make me look like I have more hair as I lose it? — suzette N. (posted on March 31, 2009)

I would not cut my hair. You may not even lose hair. Most people do but not
everyone. Wait and see what happens before you make such a drastic change

NO!!! Don't do it! LOL I didn't cut my hair until the hair loss was so
bad that I just took a little weight off by cutting several inches off and
keeping it up so the hair folicles didn't have so much weight on them to
pull out as easily...But no...It only lasts a short time (although it seems
forever) You might decide later to go with a different hair style as you
become a different, smaller person...Short hair is sassy! LOL But I still
prefer my long locks as long as I still have some youth in me...I'll go
gray and shorter soon enough! I have enough sassy and not enough sexy! (I'm
such a tomboy) LOL So I'm keeping it long until I cannot pull off anymore
sexy! LOL

I agree with Anita keep your hair long and see what happens. I'm glad you
asked this question I have been wondering what to do with my hair too. I
have no plans to cut it, but was wondering if I should.I'm 4 pounds away
from seeing my physiologist, and 9 away from being at my goal weight to
have surgery. I'm going to have a RNY.
I'm so afriad of losing my hair. Thanks for posting your question no
question is a stupid one. I'm not going to cut my hair unless I realy need
to. I have very thick hair it's long. I agree with Anita not cutting it
unless I'm gray and have no choice. Keep the sexy until it's gone {LOL}
Good Luck to you God Bless you Thaeresa L

I would not cut my hair either! I had my surgery last August and haven't
lost a hair off my head. Keep your fingers crossed. Good luck with the
surgery.

If your hair is important to you the way it is, you should keep it until
you know if you have hair loss or not.

Please no! I have seen very few people actually lose their hair. You may
lose some at the beginning - it shouldn't be too much, though, and if you
are committed to following the nutrition guidelines and taking in the
recommended amount of protein, you probably won't have a problem.

I also had really long hair and started to loose it after 4 months, I hope
you don't loose your hair (I am still loosing it) I have started taking
Biotin daily to help the process, it really emotionally hurt to see my hair
fall out after having it so long and full but you take a bad with all the
good you get it will eventually grow out.Good luck friend God bless you.

NOOOOOOOO!!!! (lol). I had long hair (about 4 inches below my shoulder
line) and I decided to cut all of my hair to about 4 inches all over. Not
4 inches off, but 4 inches length after cut! What a big mistake! Once I
had the surgery, at about the second month, my hair was coming out badly.
But not just that, it was thinning out! I am ethnic and decided to put in
a relaxer (hair straightener) at about 3 months post. Once it was complete,
my hair was bone straight thinned out. And it made the shape of my head
look funny because I couldn't get my hair to lay right and dare I try to
get some curls in it or some body. So I decided to use hair pieces (not
braids) like wigs or clip-ons. That was in 2004. My hair is now long
again, even longer than before I cut it pre-surgery. It's not as thick as
it was in the past, and yes, it still comes out. My comb and brush gets
hair in it at every use. However it grows as fast as it comes out so no one
ever knows how much I shed except me. But now my hair has some of its
thickness back and I can curl it and put it up and style it, etc. etc. So I
don't think you'll be doomed to lose all of your hair, but save yourself
some embarrassment and keep your her NOW. You will need it to get through
that rough phase! (lol) So glad you posted this because you brought back
so many comical memories!
