I had a moderate hiatal hernia before surgery (which was last Monday, March
2nd), and so far, no complications. No nausea, no vomiting, no pain,
nothing that seems unusual.

About 4 years ago I had a hernia patch put in for a significant hernia. I
would not call this a complication, just something that has to be dealt
with. When you are fat and they put the patch in, generally they are
sewing into fat and when that fat is gone there isn't anything for the
patch to hang on to. So, on March 18th I am going in to have a hernia
repair of my hernia repair. My intestine is pushing through the weak end
of the patch and through the abdomen muscle. There, thankfully, is no
obstruction. I am not in pain, per se, it is more like you have to sit up
pretty straight and towards the end of the day you are uncomfortable. It
has thrown of my exercise, only walking right now and that does not make me
happy, but I am maintaining my weight, so I am happy with that. Long story
short - sometimes things have to be fixed that you thought were fixed
before when the weight comes off.

I had a hiatal hernia before surgery...I didn't have surgery on it, but I
have no idea what ever became of it either! All I know is that after RNY
surgery...I had only the damage from reflux to heal and never had heartburn
again...I stayed on prevacid for months and that was the end of that
nightmare! With no stomach acid and no liquids in your belly...I guess it
just corrected itself! I honestly have NO clue whatever happened to it!
LOL I always forgot to ask when I had my visits...It's been 5 years! It's
just gone, I guess!

I was not aware that I had a hiatal hernia until I woke up from surgery and
my surgeon had fixed it during my bypass. I had severe heartburn issues
before and she said that the hernia was probably what was contributing to
it the most. No problems at all after surgery.

question...ah well...

I had a hiatal hernia fixed during lapband surgery and didn't even know
about it until I got the bill!

Are you referring to the Nissen Fundoplasty procedure? I had it done 2
years prior to my RNY gastric bypass. My surgeon had to
"take-down" the Nissen to do the RNY. Because of the extra work
she had to do, my surgeon did an open procedure, done on 6/21/01. No
complications from that, no return of the GERD or hiatal hernia, just
gastritis that is well-controlled with medication. I have had two major
surgeries since the RNY, a bowel obstruction at about 20 months out and
then an internal hernia at a little over 6 years out. Both required being
opened up again, the internal hernia caused me to lose a good deal of the
transverse colon. Wishing you all the best. Blessings,
