Question:
Does anyone still feel that they are big after weight loss
I am almost 8 years out. And I am afraid of getting big again. i can feel the urges of eating sweets. When i first had the surgery i would dump. Now I can drink sweet drinks, eat candy with no effects at all. Why do you not dump after years of this. — lionettes (posted on September 9, 2008)

So do you still feel full when you eat protein? If you do, you should go
on an atkins kind of program for alittle bit, to get yourself into ketosis,
so you can lose again. Don't flirt with disaster and mess up all that
you've come thru. Cut out the sweet drinks and sugery food. I have heard
that the effect of dumping can get better. But why push yourself to eat
the wrong foods that ended you up where you were pre-op? Get back on
track, take care of your tool. If you are not feeling full, weigh your
food and only eat what you need to get in the protein, and nutrients you
need. If you remember, early on, you gave up those things and got to where
you didn't want them all the time. You can do it again. The more carbs
and sugar you eat, the more you want. Having just a little can start you
on a downward spiral to a binge. Take Care, and Be Well.... Lesleigh

Excellent advice! My RNY was 12-30-04. I found that you can dump at the
most unexpected times years after the surgery. I never did have many
dumping episodes but did my share of throwing up, feeling faint, nauseus,
or just plain ill; but, there I was, on a DATE, eating at a FANCY
RESTAURANT last summer (2007), carefully chosing my foods, and not DRINKING
LIQUIDS WHILE I WAS EATING. I'm doing everything right, right? Well, I
thought so. Yes, it is a real challenge to find decent food in any
restaurant. The meal was over and suddenly I didn't feel well. I knew I
was going to pass out. Yes, dumping can mean getting real sweaty and
passing out. My ears are ringing, spots are before my eyes, and everything
is disappearing into darkness. I was having trouble seeing anything. The
door was right my our table. My date helped me out the door, not
understanding that I needed to immediately lie down so I wouldn't faint.
Well, he kept pulling me along, and... I fainted and cracked my head open.
Yes, that was an episode of dumping. Left my blood all over his headrest,
which he has yet to clean and will not let me clean it. I experienced a
similar experience with the same gentleman about 4 months later at the same
restaurant. No, it wasn't an episode of dumping because of who I was with,
he is always a charming companion. I've never gone back to that
restaurant. It seems they cook everything in tons of fat, and no matter
how hard I'd try to not get the fat stuff, I'd get it and so I'd dump. So,
you may be 8 years out, but yes, you can still dump. Like you, I can also
chow down on candy. If you are feeling the urges of wanting to eat sweets,
it is probably due to the fact you are not getting a balance in your
protein sources as well as a sufficient quantity of VEGETABLES (green ones
especially) besides fresh fruits. I know that from personal experience as
well. Juice your fruits and vegetables in honor of your small pouch, so
you get sufficient nutrients from these sources, keep your records through
MyFitDay.com or other sources, keep up drinking your 60 to 96 ounces of
water daily, besides keeping your records and maintaining your exercises.
The desire for sweets will go away as soon as you start getting back to the
basics. To reiterate, yes, you can and will still dump, so be good to your
tool and return to the basics. You'll be glad you did.
