I'm 12 days out and have been exhausted and extremely lethargic. A lot of people have told me that this is normal and that it's just my body adjusting to the changes, but I'm not sure. You're further out than me and yours is just starting? The thing that really sucks is that I can't nap during the day. I try, but I can never sleep more than 30-45 minutes. So I will be curious, too, what people have to say about this ...

This is SOOOO normal! I felt wonderful after my surgery! The more time that passed the more worn out I felt. Besides the body adjusting to a MAJOR surgery you have to remember that it is now surviving on 600 to 800 calories and that is probably around a 1/4 or less than it was used to. Don't push yourself. It really took me months to get all of my energy back.......and I do mean months. My iron was a little low but nothing drastic. This is just a major surgery with major adjustments. Relax as much as possible. Best wishes and enjoy the success!

I think it's very normal to be tired. I flucuate between feeling great, lots of energy and then getting so tired so fast. Remember that 1. you've just had surgery and your body is healing, 2. your diet is completely different. Both of these things effect the way you're feeling. The good news is that it gets better as you adjust.

I had the same feelings, and I would go to the car and nap at lunch and do the same thing again before I drove home. Turns out I was low on B-12. Got a shot, but that just pumps you up for a week and then you are back to the same place, so I got the shot again and used a b-12 spray from www.bbvitamins.com. I spray it under my toungh three times in the morning and at noon and in the evening. If you use it twice a day it last for about a month. I go through one pray unit in three weeks. It is easy to cary, very small and taste good too, as Lucy would say. Best of sucess to all of you.

I believe it has everything to do with the anistetic they give you to knock you out, it takes a while for it to work its way out of your body and this feeling to go away. perhaps a month. Be sure to drink all you liquids and get in all your protiens. rest alot and get up and walk around even more. This will all soon be behind you. I am pre-op and this is what I have learned from reading all the posts. Hope it helps. Any troubles call you Dr. office.

This is very normal. After I had my surgery I remember often feeling very tired and very little energy. My Dr. told me I have gone from eating a thousand calorie diet to eating almost nothing in the beginnning. I increased my protein as much as possible and after a few wks. I felt better. Good luck!

I agree with all of the above. Good days and bad days. I had lap-band on 4/14/08, waiting for my first fill. (Hopefully 5/22) and some days I feel good, some days I feel ill. PMS time (sorry men out there) this last time was the pits. My post-bariatric vitamins have a LOT of B-12 so I'm good there. I do feel kind of better as far as being more conscious of my nutrition. The itching and pain in the stitches, especially in the port area was pretty unconfortable but now is almost gone. Just hang in there and it will get better. Even a little bit of activity is better than none.

I have had 7 surgeries in the last 4 years. I have lots of artritis in my joints and had back surgery, knee and hip replacement, and foot surgery among others. But I have to tell you that RNY took more out of me than all the others combined. I teach aerobics and swim so its not like I went into this surgery. I was so weak, it was a struggle just to walk up and down the halls of the hospital. When I got home I couldn't even walk a 1/2 a block. I called the Dr. and they told me it was perfectly normal and it could last up to 3 months. I am almost 11 weeks out and I am now just starting to feel normal. Some days are better than others. When I went in for my 2 week check up, I complained big time about how weak I was. He put me on sub-lingual liquid vitamin B12 every day. It helped a lot. Make sure you get your multi vitamin every day, your 40+ mg. of protein and 64 oz. of liguid. Liquid is not just water, it can include your juice, protein drink and the liquid you add to your food. If you stick with this your energy will start to come back. Good Luck, Paula B.

Tomorrow I'll be three weeks out from lap RNY and I am just starting to feel like I'm getting some energy back. I was incredibly tired and lethargic, especially after the first week. I wonder, though, how much of it is because of the surgery, how much is depression (I've been going through some personal things lately), and how much of it is a lack of effort and a no motivation to force myself to start exercising more.
