I see according to your profile, you had a RNY in November. While I can
eat a bowl of Salad, it is because in a garden salad many of the items are
not solid and chew to liquid or very small amounts of food, but a Taco
Salad has lots to ground beef and Beans, both would not reduce down to a
standard few onces your pouch should hold. My Doctor would not allow me to
go to a fast food and I assume this was a Taco Bell type salad. There
beans are not allowed for me for 6 month, and the shell would not be
approved because of corn content and being a comples carb. Did you drink
also while eating? If so you washed the food out of the pouch and that
would account for the large quanity of food you ate. In most cases, your
pouch does not streach with just one meal. If this was a first time over
eating, you would have had some pain with it. I would call my doctor and
discuss with him the issue, if your followed the drinking with meals and
not drinking for 1 hour after meals rule. I hope that help you some. The
only way I can eat more than 3 oz. at a meal is with some type of slider
food like soup, or cottage cheese.

I'd say you probably started eating more carbs than protein and you've
gotten yourself addicted to carbs again and the hunger you feel is the carb
cravings. (I know...I do this from time to time so you're not alone
sweetie) Plus, you are probably washing the food right down and out of your
pouch and can't tell when you are full...NOT good (Another habit I had to
break...even 4 years post op) It's so easy to pick up old bad habits ...Go
back to basics. Reading your profile...I noticed the order you put
thanksgiving dinner down...It's the opposite of how you should be
eating...stuffing first...then you said you ate some turkey and tried
ham...See? (I tasted the stuffing first too;) ) The meat doesn't go down
as easy and it's because your pouch is just fine! You just found slider
foods and carbs much more happier to the taste buds and your belly. DON'T!
LOL You can do this...Your kids are adorable! Try eating more solid
proteins and see if that doesn't help you! Don't eat anything with it that
will wash it away... and see if that doesn't help...
Good luck to you

Hello I do not know what surgery you had but first let me know that.
I know at three mths out I was not allowed to eat that at all. I am 3
years out and I can eat 1 cup max in food.
I had the rouyn en y in Wyoming. So let me know and I would be more then
happy to help you.
thanks

Hi Vivian. Honey, you are not hungry, your head is playing tricks on you.
Your surgery fixes your tummy, not your head. You have to walk away from
the food. Your pouch will stretch naturally, but if you continue to listen
to this "head hunger", it will stop your weight loss. Obesity is
a head issue with a body consequence. You have to deal with the head
issues, or you will cause your body to fail. Head hunger feels like real
hunger, but it is not. We talk ourselves into eating much much more than
we need. It is not too late to get help for your issues, but you need to
step up and take control of what you eat, or you will be in danger of
gaining again. Be afraid, and do what you know is right. Patricia P.

Most RNY-ers could not eat a full salad at 3 months--- many of us had
difficulty with salad for nearly 6 months. So, even if your eating
indicates that you have a larger pouch than most other patients, or that
you've stretched your pouch (which would be tough unless you were
habitually over-eating), you still need to try to reign in your food.
First, consider boosting your protein intake to help curb your hunger,
while also eliminating the carbs. Secondly, measure the food you're
eating, and eat slowly, so that you can develop a better sense of how
appropriate amounts of food would feel in your pouch.

Go back to the basics. Just cuz you CAN eat that much, doesn't mean you
should. Really "listen" to your pouch when it says that it's
satisfied.

Hi, I have wondered that myself from time to time. I agree with William H
though, my surgeon did not advocate eating solids until 3-4 months out and
then only protein. I have not had fast food at all (Im 13 months post op)
my Doc would flip.
I sure hope that our pouches can't stretch that easily. Recently I have
noticed I can handle more food once in awhile, not trying to overeat, i'm
just hungry. Don't worry, three months out is still new and your going to
feel all kinds of emotions and such but don't get discouraged You CAN do
this. All the best to you CNZCAT (Cindy)
