Question:
Loosing a lot of hair!!!!
I am three months post surgery and I am loosing a lot of hair, i know they said this would happen but i didn't think it would be that bad. Is there anything i can take to stop the hair loss? Will the hair grow back and if so when? — summerday_99 (posted on June 12, 2007)

I am having surgery not until July or August but from what my dietician has
told me you need to get lots of protein in to help avoid this. I've been
told protein first when you eat then other foods.

I started my 3rd month on May 29th and so far so good...I'm praying I don't
lose some hair! I make sure the first thing I get in at each meal is my
protein and I make sure I get the necessary 70-80 gms each day! I've seen
on here to try biotin. Also Rogain help's others. Each person is
different so it all depends on when your hair will come back. Hang in
there, this is a small price to pay for such a wonderful tool! Good luck!

I'm 4 months post-op and have been losing about a weeks worth of hair in 2
days! Even with all the protein I'm still losing it. I've been told it
will subside and it will all grow back, but that doesn't comfort me too
much! I have/had very thick hair and want it to come back sooner than
later. My hair dresser told me to use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner which
I have not, but will be purchasing this week, kind of expensive. Keep me
posted on is anything else helps.

Liz,
Are you getting in the 70 grams of protein a day? You might want to kick
up your protein. I did read someplace that after 3 months people might
start to loose hair. If I've lost any I couldn't tell.

YOU HAVE TO EAT A LOT OF PROTEIN AND DRINK A PROTEIN
DRINK THREE TIMES A DAY AND TAKE A MULITVITAIM TOO
SO YOUR HAIR WILL NOT FALL OUT.

I went through this stage, right around the same time, I took Biotin 5000mg
from the vitamin department and used Nioxin shampoo. I couldn't tell you if
it actually worked because I personally think, it has to run its course.
The good thing is that it stops falling out around 6 to 7 months post op. I
have all new healthy baby hair, now I just have to wait for it to grow
long. I bought me a really pretty fake hair pony tail, I wear, because I'm
a big hair type of person and couldn't do without my hair.

PROTIEN!! That is what will help. The hair loss only last for a few
months. (I know it seems long at the time), but yes your hair will grow
back at least mine did.

I have not had the surgery yet, but am losing major amounts of hair
anyway.......I do this from time to time and i hate it, so i am very
nervous about losing even MORE after surgery, i may have to get a WIG!! My
mom had the surgery 2+ years ago and someone told her to get a hair vitamin
which she found at Apple City Herbs and Health Food Store in our town. She
started taking them before she had surgery and i don't think she lost any
hair, so that's the route i plan on taking. Good Luck!

You really need to take all your recommended protein and vitamins. If you
do this it shouldn't be too bad.

I had very thick hair and lost handfuls everyday for about 1-2 months.
While this is normal, it can be very disturbing and frustrating! I called
my doctor's office and they recommended using Nioxin Shampoo and
Conditioner. It really seemed to help. It is a little costly, but there are
generics for much less with the same active ingredients. I would recommend
trying something for thinning hair. My hair loss stopped as abruptly as it
started, so hang in there.....My hair is no where near as thick as it was
pre-surgery, but it is getting fuller and healthier all the time. Make sure
you don't do any color or perm while you are losing hair. Wait at least a
month after it stops to do any treatments.....Good luck....

The protein will help. Also, my nutritionist recommended taking 5mg of
biotin daily.
