Question:
Do all the medication that we need to take come in chewables??
I am having my surgery in 2 weeks and I already bought all the pills that I'll be taking. I was just wondering if they all come in chewables, cause the only chewables I found was the iron, calcium and multivitamins. The others, vitamins A,B,C,&D and Biotin come in capsules and the Biotin pill is HUGE. Is it safe to take all these capsules considering that the new pouch won't heal for weeks?? Thanx in advance. — Claudia (posted on September 25, 2006)

chewable childrens and b liquid or under the tounge) dont take all those
pills or you'll be in painand big pills dont absorb well either

This is a question for your dr. My dr stated all meds must be chewables for
the first 4 weeks. However, he only had me on iron, multi, calcium and b-12
bilingual. After 4 weeks I was able to take my biotin and added, but later
stopped, omega 3 gelcaps. The omegas are HUGE and would get stuck sideways
in my throat. Ask your surgeon or nut for full details. Dont damage your
new pouch.

But a pill crusher if you can'y find chewables in your area. You should
find them on the net, however, they can be expensive. I crush my pills per
my surgen's advise. You can find a simple, effective pill crusher in your
local pharmacy.

Starting day 3 (I didn't bother while I was in the hospital), I swallowed
all my pills except my Flinstone's multi-vitamin. I kinda had to - I have
bipolar and had 4 prescriptions to take - and you don't want to see me
without those Rxs. LOL. I have chewable C from Walmart - fruity flavors,
doesn't taste too bad. I don't think these vits are going to hurt your new
pouch but don't take them all at once. I can only take 2 pills at once,
leaving about 20 mins in between each. Yes, it means I'm kinda taking
pills throughout the day but I settled into a routine and it's fine now.
(I'm 6 mos post-op) But I would speak with your surgeon or nut to see if
you need to take all of those vits immediately. I didn't start calcium
until 2 mos post-op. Good luck with your op!

All I take is the calcium, multi, & B12 (sublingual for now...started
shots in couple weeks). No one EVER mentioned those other ones.

A and D are teensy little capsules (with powder inside). Any caps that you
take can be held in the mouth for 10-15 seconds until they start to break
down. C is chewable. (you can put the C chew in your mouth with the iron
chewable & they will be very happy together!) B12 is under the
tongue. A b-complex & biotin are usually tablets, but you can split
those. I've NEVER chewed a vitamin or crushed one. I did split pills for
30 days, but I'm thinking I probably never really did need to do that.
Remember, SALIVA melts pills, not so much water.

I am 5 years out. I take viactiv vitamins. They are like little chocolate
chewy candies. They are new. They dont taste bad, and no pills to chew or
swallow. You have to take multi-vitamins every day! It is vital to your
health.

Optisource, by Novartis. They can be purchased at Walgreens, and also
www.walgreens.com. They are chewable orange flavored vitamin and mineral
supplements made especially for bariatric patients, so they are made in
such a way as to be more easily absorbed. These are what my surgeon
recommends. Simply chew one tablet four times daily with food. My bloodwork
always comes back perfect, so they work for me.
