I am so sorry you have to lose weight before surgery. I had mine done at
MUSC in Charleston SC and I didn't have to lose any weight. In fact I
gained 10 pounds before surgery. Dr Byrne said that was ok I would lose it
in the first week and he was right.

My surgeon has me on an all skim milk diet to help reduce the fat around
the liver so it is easier to get out of the way when they perform the
surgery. It is all the skim milk you can drink in 10 minutes 3-5 times a
day. So far 1 week 7 pounds lost. There are to people in my support
group, one lost 30 pounds in 30 days and the other lost 65 pounds in 6
weeks on this diet. Good luck..

I lost 22 in 2 weeks pre op. I drank EAS brand chocolate protein shakes,
ate sugar free jello, chicken broth, and when I just couldn't stand
another liquid, I ate sugar free pudding. It was so much harder pre op
than post op!!! After my surgery I wasn't nearly as hungry. The protein
drink I chose had the least calories and carbs of all the ones I found.
You can find them at Wal Mart and Sams and most grocery stores. I find
they are filling and if kept real cold, have a pleasant taste.

I lost 30 pounds on Meridia before my surgery. Might be something your doc
can prescribe to you... And try to keep in mind that even if you break
your butt, this is weight you WILL NEVER REGAIN - that certainly helped
motivate me!! That and knowing I had a much better shot at recovery,
getting through anesthesia, getting on my feet, etc. sooner the less heavy
I was...
