Hang in there. Be persistant. It took me almost a year between the start
of paperwork and surgery.

I started last april first with my two primary insurance companies, and I
am still aplying for approval , been denied, appealed, corrected, apealed,
and we are doing it again, they educate me and we do it better.

See, there is no excuse for loss of paperwork. This is the time I would be
asking to speak with a supervisor --especially since you have been doing
this for a year. I'm in the customer service industry and in my book --
this is unacceptable work. If they have your file and your paperwork is in
the file -- how could they have lost it. Did they lose the entire file?
Needless to say, I wouldn't be as calm as you -- they'd find my paperwork.

I also have BCBS. They told me that they didn't have my paperwork, but the
lady i spoke with was very nice, and she said for me to have the insurance
coordinator from my Dr's office to call the pre-certification department,
and they would get it all started by phone, and accept the paperwork by
fax.
My insurance coordinator called and gave them the info, and talked to one
of their nurses, and they approved me then and there over the phone with
her!!!
I would definetly keep calling...keeping asking, but most importantly, talk
to your Dr's insurance co-ordinator call their pre-cert department and do
it over the phone. If I waited for them to get the letter, who knows how
long I would be waiting??? I waited 2 weeks, and then when they kept
saying they didn't have it, that is is when we went to doing it by phone!
I pray that you get an answer in your favor soon!
Best of luck to you!

Been there done that. I was just approved on Tuesday and my date is
scheduled for 2/14. I started the whole process in July of 2004. My best
advice is keep calling!! Keep your name in front of them. I would call
the doctor's office every couple of weeks to see how things stood. In my
situation, I ended up changing surgeons last September which was the best
thing I could have possibly done. Keep trying, it will happen.
