My Doctor says that you usually have to wait a minumum of one year.

I had my baby on February 10, 2005 and then I had the Laproscopic RNY on September 19, 2005. I could have probably had it sooner than that, but insurance approval and all that slowed me down a little. I think every doctor is different, you will just have to find a surgeon and ask him what his opinion is... Good Luck!! It will be the greatest decision you'll ever make, trust me. Lacey 298/238/145

I waited 18 months. But I wanted to breast feed for as long as possible and didn't want to have any issues with taking in enough fluid and nutrients. In retrospect it might have been easier if I had done it when the baby was not so mobile -- having had surgery with a running, walking, climbing toddler was tough -- Thank God for my mother. Good Luck with the baby and surgery!

My son was born in May 2000. I started researching in July/August. I had my surgery in January 2001. So it was 8 months between May and January.

If I were she, I would wait and try to lose weight first. If she breastfeeds it burns more calories and is also better for the baby, as well as easier (no bottles and formula to drag everywhere)!

I had my baby Oct. 2004 and my Lap Band surgery was Aug. 2005 (10 months to the day). I even had a c-section with my daughter!

I actually went through this situation. My surgeon said six months after and that's when I did it!!! I just needed extra care after because I wasn't able to care for my baby.
