Question:
DO I HAVE A CHANCE TO GET WLS
My insurance is UHC choice and the exclusion reads.....except as may be specifically provided in section i or the summary plan description or thru a rider to the plan the following are not covered.....surgical treatment & non-surgical treatment of obesity ( including morbid obesity). — JO M. except as may be specifically provided in section i Those are the key
words You need to go back and look at those exceptions and see what they
read. Most of the time it says unless medically necessary.

I have UHC and my policy states the coverage for surgery for morbid obesity
in the exclusions section. Read all of your exclusions carefully. Mine
reads "surgical treatment for weight loss, unless there is a diagnosis
of morbid obesity." My particular UHC plan uses the National
Institutes of Health's definition of morbid obesity which can be found at
the NIH website. Best wishes!

Jo,
There's always the option of self-paying. I went to Spain for my surgery,
and it was VERY affordable - particularly in comparison to self-paying in
the states.
Let me know if I can help. Okay?
Blessings,

Hi. I have UHC and was approved in 2 weeks. Don't give up on the surgery.
If UHC won't pay go to the website clos.net and have it done there for only
$17,000. You can self pay there but the price is reasonable. Everyone who
has had it done there is very happy with it. I have emailed back and forth
with many of them. I was going to go there if my insurance wouldn't pay
for it.

I did not use UHC but numerous people I work with are being approved for
the surgery. This has increased also since the AMA has now listed obesity
as a disease rather then a condition. Good luck!!!! It is well worth
appeals, if necessary!
