Question:
Do risks/complications come from the type of surgery, or just having surgery?
I'm just wondering if the risks involved in having the surgery come from the type of surgery performed(RNY) or if they are just the risks/complications associated with an obese person having any type of surgery. — MaryAnn J. (posted on May 16, 2000)

Most would be from just having the surgery. The operations involve general
anesthesia
and gastrointestinal anastamoses. I doubt that there is any data showing
that a particular
type of bariatric surgery is less associated with postop complications than
another.
