Question:
Who finds it difficult to have a shower?
Hi I am morbidly obese and having a shower is like a day of labour work. It takes so much out of me. I have my surgery next week and the shower will problaby be harder. Any advice on how to shower when you can't stand to long and you are very very big. I do have a chair but of course you don't get completely clean sitting on a chair. help. — [Deactivated Member] (posted on January 18, 2011)

What I did was install one of those removable shower heads with the long
hose. It reaches where you can't but you won't be needing it that long if
your date is next week. Good luck on your journey!

i am not morbidly to the point i have that issue. BUT about 10 years ago i
helped a friend that started close to 350 or more...what we did was. 1.
have someone you really trust around. someone that you do not mind being in
all your nooks and crannies. 2. get some bath sponge wipe things, ask a dr
or nurse about them. they come in a plastic bag and you microwave the bag
to warm them up..and i would wipe her down the first few days until she was
able to take over her own personal care.....GOOD LUCK NEXT WEEK

I do not know what kind of surgery that you are having but if you are
having a RNY you will be plesently suprised. THere are only tinny cuts that
are glues and taped up and you are not in any pain what so ever. You might
have itching in the area of the insicions ormight feel pulling as I did
aroun the insicion on your belly button area and on your left sid. That is
because on your left side is where the camera is and it gets moved around
alot for viewing angles. The one at the belly button is due to gravity
pulling it down. Now you might have a few sutrue nots that mite be visible
as well but they disolve so no worries. Now having said that if you are
having a RNY.... My doctor encouraged all his patients to get up the same
day and walk to the showers to wash. There is nurses to assist you if
needed. I was only in Hospital for 2 days and I was up and around same day
of surgery. I was able to wash and yes I agree with the person who said to
get a handle type shower if you don't already have one. SHowering at the
hospital is easy but yes tiring. YOU JUST HAD SURGERY LOL! But having said
that you need to go and get that iodine off your skin that they use in
surgery. You wil fell extreemly exhausted after your first shower but
GIRL.. you will feel like a million bucks after getting cleaned up. You can
go right back to bed after. Also what I had not been told prior to
surgery... Is that you must walk after surgery as much as possible to get
the gas moving or you will be in HORRIBLE pain! God bless and keep looking
up! 111 lbs gon since Feb 11 2010 only 28 to go.
