How long does it take for a festula to heal.

After RNY sugery I have a fistula on the left side enterance wound leaking small amounts of gas and stool to the surface, the wound is being packed and cleand daily, how long does it take for this problem to heal.    — alexgrand57 (posted on April 27, 2010)

Unfortunantly there is no set time limit for healing. Most of it depends on your body. They are packing the fistula so that it will heal from the inside out. Protein is a very important part of the things that the body uses to heal so get as much protein in as you can. No more than 20 gm at each serving. Be sure that you take your vitamins as they also play a role in healing. Hope this helps. Ldy N Amber
