over 2 years and also on meds for cholesteral. i had my surgery 12-15-09
and i am very pleased to say that as of 2 weeks ago, i dont have to take
meds for either one! it worked for me in less than 2 months. good luck to
you!!!

The word I have from the papers written by doctors is that when you cut the
duodenum, it cures type 2 diabetes. They are trying to eliminate the 100
pounds overweightrule for type 2 diabetics, as it can save many many
lives.
I am a juvenile diabetic, a type 1. I was taking 600-700 units of insulin
per day before the RNY. Afterward I was, and still am, taking 38 units of
Lantis insulin and 18 units of humulog. It doesn't cure type one diabetes
entirely, but it sure allowed me to start using the pens instead of full
100 unit syringes. I also went from 22 perscriptions to 3 and suppliments.
The lap band will not do this. Every one is different, but follow your
surgeons recommendations carefully and be prepared for insulin shock if you
continue to take insulin after the wls, especially during and after
exercising.

I'm really hoping I benefit from this demonstrated effect of RNY surgery.
You don't mention your surgery type on your profile, but the headlines
about WLS curing type 2 diabetes refer to Roux-en-Y. Here's a 60 minutes
program on this subject... you can either watch the video or read the

Gary, I was 59, type 2 diabetic when I had RNY three years ago. Since the
surgery I have been off diabetes meds and my hemoglobin A1C test comes back
constantly as 5.5
Good luck on your surgery

I am 62 and had RNY 4/27/09. Within the first month I went from 5 insulin
injections a day to zero and only one metformin a day. I have lost 101 lbs
in about 9 months and have great A1C numbers.
