Question:
For women only, please - stabbing pain in non-surgical areas?
I am 5 months out, lap RNY, and have lost nearly 100 pounds. I've gone down several sizes, including bra sizes. A month or so ago, as I was taking my bra off, I had a sharp, stabbing pain to the left side of my left breast. There were no lumps or anything else, but it would literally take my breath away if I didn't have my bra on and bent over. It went away in a few days, but yesterday, I had the same kind of pain appear when I took my bra off, only this time under the right arm, towards the back of the fat pad that usually hangs over the sides of your bra. And it is worse when the bra is not on, and now, the original pain in the left breast is back, so I hurt on both sides, especially if I bend over. Anyone have this before? Is it related to weight loss and brassiere size changes? Got any ideas? — Erica Alikchihoo (posted on August 4, 2009)

I have not experienced any breast pain after surgery. I would make an
appointment with my primary care doctor. You should have this pain
evaluated.
I hope you feel better. You must be having a lot of pain. Take care.

I am 4 months our VSG and have lost 75 lbs so far. I had a sharp stabbing
pain under my right arm the other night. I found it odd. But then it went
away. I have gone to a massage therapist that pushes on pressure points and
it helps to relieve nerve and muscle issues. Something like this might help
you. I have found that our body goes through so many changes and
adjustments as we are losing weight so quickly it doesn't seem to know what
to do. Last week I had sharp stabbing pains in my right leg and the massage
therapist told me to use a tennis ball in my hip area and rub it about to
help work out issues. I also made sure to do my lower lumbar stretches and
the pain went away and I feel much better. By the way congrats on losing
100 lbs in 5 months way to go. But I wouldn't be supprised if your body is
a little out of wack due to such a rapid weight loss. I would check with
your doctor and even ask him about massage or even if chiropractic care
could help. I hope you feel better soon and I hope you keep up the great
success.

Hi! I am 13 months out and get pain in my upper belly if I am working doing
gardening, or bending over for a while. <Mine,I have discovered, is
gas...but when I have it, I cannot move anything. Walking is virtually
impossible and the lazst time I had it, I could breathe only short lil
breathes. It hurts, but I take a gas pill, wait 15 minutes and it goes
away. I hope yours is only gas as well! Best of luck to you! hugs, kim

I am waiting to have the surgery RNY but I have had that problem its hard
to describe very sharp pain feels like stabbing almost pluersy like feeling
like it takes your deep breathing away for a second your almost afraid to
move and then it passes. I did talk with a Physical Therapist she had her
doctorate in PT she said it was nerve driven pain - I noticed with me it
was more my position/posture. I felt like it was related to my weight and
posture. It was a while ago - I don't remember the name of the nerve she
did mention which triggered it. It is scray when it happens. lisac
