Question:
I had RNY on May 8, 2009.

Is it too soon to help my husband move our boxes and furniture into our new home? I am going to try not to lift anything too heavy but I know I will probably over do it, because it needs to be done. But I have concerns about being completey healed inside. I dont have any pain and feel great but I am still concerned.    — ajsp (posted on July 10, 2009)

The wait is usually 6 weeks for limited physical work. Since you are 8 weeks post op, don't lift anything that is more than you can normally life pre op. But if you aren't sure, call your doctor. He should have that info in his post op instructions. But 6 weeks is usually the window. Be careful because you can easily cause a hernia.

Congratulations on your WLS, and your new home. I had RNY on 5/13/2009. I met with my surgeon yesterday. He mentioned the body is still healing from the surgery. If in doubt please talk to your surgeon. The 20 lb. weight restriction was until 6 wks for me. I am careful as to what I lift now. Tell me how you are doing with the new you? I have had a few challenges. I am having a difficult time with walking and exercise. I do not believe I will ever like the protein drinks. Good luck to you! Keep us posted.

Congrats on your surgery and new home. What an exciting time in your life. I met with my surgeon on Wednesday and she told me my only restriction was no lifting more than 15 lbs for the first two weeks. She said, I would not damage anything inside. Now of course I do not feel healed yet and I know my limitations. I just had my surgery on 6/16/2009. Like other folks have indicated each surgeon is SOOOOO different so see what your surgeon reccommends. Good Luck on your weight disposable (wont say loss because who wants to find it) and your new home.

You shouldn't lift anything more than 5 lbs for two weeks after surgery. Then 10-15lbs for 4 weeks after that. You use your " core" body to life and you shouldn't so for up to 6-8 weeks after surgery - per my surgery.
