Question:
why am i stuck at this weight
i lost about 25 lbs before the surgery and then about 10 after, well it is about 5 weeks out and i have only lost 5 more pounds what is the deal. i am eating and drinking the protein, i admit i cheat a little but not bad, a whole piece of toast for breakfast instead of 1/2 or once a week i have mashed potatoes and have a large spoon full, but over all i am on the diet. but i am stuck. it is so aggravating to me. thanks — bosswoman (posted on February 20, 2009)

Donna, Congradulations that is still good. Question Are you walking at
least 30 minutes steady daily and NO sugar of any kind either in protein
drinks sobital-futrose- sweet and low? Bread is carbs and makes you
hungry. Mashed potatoes I was told no white flour products. I wish you
the best If you are walking increase to an hour.

Wow 40 lbs is great. I am almost 8 months out and I have only lost 27 lbs.
I had the Lap Band so I know that I will be losing slowly but my friend
lost 80 lbs and she had the lap band. I am exercising 4 days a week at the
gym and am power walking 3-4 miles a day. I know one day the weight will
start to drop, so hang in there and get away from the carbs until you can
see yourself losing. Good Luck, Susan

Not sure what surgery you had I read your blog but did not find it? Your
weightloss to this day is great, My concern cheating a little? I do not
need to say a thing, this does slow things down, I had rny july 08, I have
lost 125 pounds, I to have had things I was not suppose to, get back on
track, this will slow u down, I am 7 months out I can not eat a whole piece
of toast, I think of it this way what do u get from it? Nothing,When I eat
something that I know does not give anything nourishing I try not to eat
it, it is like wasted eating(we need to eat protein to loose weight)The
bread just does not allow u to loose, when u started this journey u knew of
the commitment u needed to take, I am not saying I am perfect but I do
realise when my weighloss slows it is usually do to me either eating
something I should not have or not getting enough protein. I know it is
hard, this new life, Mashed potatoes are fine all docs are different mine
says eat a little of white foods but not to much. Try hot cereals, I just
want to say I know it is aggravating but if we eat things that are like
bread and potatoes then have a good day of eating it is going to equal each
other out. Please be strong get on track, not trying to mean you have come
to far to go back to old eating habits maybe log your food and see what u r
really eating, best wishes Tammi

hi! Congrats...just try to be patient and maybe keep track of your calorie
intake..I was eating about 300-500 a day at 6 weeks post op. I am now 8
months and consume between 600-900 a day. I still measure out my food
--about 3 ounces a meal. I am 6 lbs from goal. Good luck and talk to your
nutritionist also! she may have helpful hints! Also..try to taste foods
that are cheaters, but don't swallow...I did this on about 5 different
occasions to get me thru tough times. Now I don't even miss those
foods.hugs, Kim

Boy do I understand where U R coming from. it is a stall or a plateau. I
had one and have just recently lost 1 pound! don't know your WLS type or
your starting weight but I have found at we "light weight" (less
then 100-150 lbs to lose) tend to lose it slower then the larger folks. why
I do not know. I was told weight loss of 3 pounds per month is fine for me
(I am a light weight).

Eating a slice of toast or some mashed potatoes is not going to slow down
your weight loss or make you gain weight.
(Dry)Toast or crackers and mashed potatoes are on my first 8 weeks list of
foods list. I ate them as well. You have to consider the weight you lost
prior to the surgery and that is a significant amount. You will have to
expect these plateaus often through out the first year. It's normal and it
seems like the surgery isn't working, but your body is thinking it's
starving and it's going to try to save you...It soens't know you are doing
this on purpose...That's not it's job! You might want to keep what you
consider "cheating" to better choices. If you feel you need more
eat more protein rather than carbs...That is my only suggestion, otherwise
you are doing fine! Give yourself at least a year!

If you had lapband surgery, it sounds to me like you're definitely right on
track! If I'm reading this right, you're five weeks out of surgery, down
15 pounds. That's 3 pounds a week! I think that's awesome no matter what
kind of surgery you had.

Everyone is being helpful so I'll be the "bad guy". What exactly
is cheating "a little"? Next time it will be cheating a little
more, etc. This is a life style change. You don't want to gain any weight
back. I have a friend who now weighs more than she did before her WLS. She
nibbled on candy a lot. You are doing good but please don't consider a
little cheating OK. This is tough love - you deserve a good life.
