Question:
any breakfast ideas?

Hello everyone I am just about 2 months out and can eat pretty much whatever I can tollerate but I just dont know what to do for breakfast. I have been having scrammbled egg with a slice of cheese now for a month but I can not think of anything else to have that is low carb high protein. I drink one of my boost drinks on occasion when life is busy but my doc said he does not want me getting used to doing that. So outside of eating sliced meat or chicken for breakfast what more can I look forward to. Has to be kind of easy due to the fact I run a daycare from home so I dont get much time to prepare. I also want to say a heart felt thank you to all of you on this site. You have touched many people's lives without even knowing it. So thank you. God Bless.    — mother2mykids (posted on January 26, 2009)

Here is a small change to your scrambled aggs for breakfast, It does call for a little bit of time, So I make it on Sat. mornings, then have it for other days of the week. I will just give you the basics as you can change for your likes and for your needs. Cook some turkey bacon, drain and cool, crumble in the bottom of a 8x8 pan sprayed with non stick cooking spray. take 4 eggs or egg beater equivelent whisk with 1/4 cup of low fat milk, 1 Cup of greated low fat cheese. Now layer accordingly in pan: turkey bacon, cheese, egg mixture. salt and pepper to taste. You can also add a little tobasco sauce if you like a little kick. Bake in 350 degree oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until egg is done and golden brown. Hope you enjoy this. cora

You MUST visit Shelly's blog at http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ She has an abundance of recipes created with our lifestyle in mind since she is living with this as well. I LOVE her "bites". I make one with maple flavored bacon and swiss cheese that my teen LOVES. I'd also strongly encourage you to think outside of what you consider breakfast. There's no hard and fast rule that says you have to have "breakfast" food at breakfast.

I am close to 2 years out, so take this with a grain of salt. In the beginning I ate a saltine or two with peanut butter (so good). Dannon smoothie (in the milk section of the grocery store). now I eat a piece of toast with peanut butter. oatmeal. hummus and pretzel chips. Starbucks skinny vanilla latte (lots of protein) SF vanilla syrup and nonfat milk. graham cracker with peanut butter. anything with peanut butter really. love peanut butter. good luck.

You could also consider using some PB2 on crackers or Rusk for breakfast. PB2 is a powdered peanut butter that you can order at Bellplantation.com. Be sure crackers or toast are low fat and low carb. I love this for breakfast. I eat it on Dutch Rusk which is sort of like a 1/2 hamburger bun which comes toasted in the packeage. It is extremely low in carbs, fat, and only 60 calories for two of them. I eat 4 tbs of the PB2 on 2 rusk for breakfast. This gives me 13 grams of Protein. PB2 comes in a jar like peanut butter, and you measure out the amount you want to use mix a tablespoon or two of water with it and it's delish! I love it and order it all the time. Hope this helps you! Good luck

i completely agree with your question. i cooks some turkey sausage or turkey bacon to add to breakfast. I have made a baked omelet which is very close to on suggestion that you have. i've got a recipe for crustless quiche but i haven't made it yet. usually on those i make on night and take a little to work with me and heat it up there. i've been on allrecipes.com and recipezarr.com for different recipes hope this helps

My favorite is to have low-fat cottage cheese (Light & Lively)with fruit. Cut up a serving of apple into bite-size pieces. Add to cottage cheese and add cinnamon and, if you like, some splenda. It is delicious. I have also used peaches, blueberries, kiwi, etc. in the cottage cheese. The different types of fruit really make the cottage cheese taste different. You could also do this with yogurt, but I like the texture of the cottage cheese. For lunch you can take cottage cheese and mix some salsa into it for a dip for your veggies. Delicious!! Hope this helps! Joyce

These are all great suggestions!I enjoy cottage cheese with applesauce and vanilla yogurt sprinkled with cinnamon. I also like the turkey bacon crumbled up in an egg with cheese. For lunch, I have been taking a spoon of refried beans sprinkled with mexican cheese with a teaspoon of sour cream and a tablespoon of salsa. Heat it up for lunch and it is like a burrito! I am almost one month out and looking for "soft" food ideas too! Tina

I like to make oatmeal....but saute some chopped apple in some margarine...when soft add 1 tbsp. splenda brown sugar and a pinch of cinnamon...cook till tender...pour over cooked oatmeal...I also like to make shallot/spinach scrambled eggs....saute finely chopped shallot in some margarine, when tender, add chopped fresh spinach till soft....then add beaten egg....or crush up a nature valley granola bar and sprinkle over a light and lively Dannon fruit yogurt...enjoy! My sis and I have gotten addicted to the peanut butter cup ProCrunch Lite bars. We buy them by the case at GNC and have one for breakfast. Or I might grab some leftovers, lunch meat, a stick of Ostrim (good stuff!), whatever's handy. Spark People has some good recipes as well. You can do a search and it'll list protein and carb content on the results page. (http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/recipes.asp)

I don't know if your doctor would consider this being the same as boost, but I like no sugar added carnation instant breakfast made with calorie countdown milk. If you have a blender, you can add bananas, peanut butter, strawberries, well, anything really. There's also lots of low carb cereals that you can put fruit and milk on. Instead of scrambling your eggs with a slice of cheese, make an omelet. Throw in some veggies. How about yogurt with fruit and nuts? Cottage Cheese?

I find that there are a ton of creative recipes at bariatriceating.com & in her book, Susan Maria Leach's Before and After. Great source for all kinds of WLS friendly recipes. I've never been disappointed in any that I've made.

I can't take credit for this, I think I saw it here on the website. But someone said to get a zip lock bag add one egg, a tiny bit of milk, some veggies (I used red peppers and onions, bacon crumbles the precooked ones in a bag, and about a tblsp of chopped tomatoes), sprinkle with whatever cheese you like, close the bag and boil on the stove. I took this to work and we don't have a stove so I poured it in a paper bowl and microwaved it. It was delicious and only took a couple of minutes. I keep chopped up veggies in my fridge, so this takes maybe a minute to put together before I head off to work and about 45 seconds in the microwave. I have the Before and After book and the quiche is very good, there are several cookbooks for us on Amazon, I have 3 and they are all very good.

I know this might sound weird but I like to eat a Lean Pocket every once in a while for breakfast, especially the pizza kind! They all are less than 300 calories and are filling and help me with my pizza cravings. I don't eat them often but it is a nice treat for me when I do. Good luck to you!
