Yes there are men here who have had wls. I had LAP RNY on May 10, 2006. I
started nutrition classes 6 months prior at 345. I was 322 on surgery date.
I lost 100 pounds by Xmas that year. In May, 2008, I became a member of
Onderland (weighing under 200 pounds) and also attaining a wt loss total of
over 150 pounds. Today I'm at 186-188 at 28 months since surgery. You may
find my profile story insteresting--click on the name under my photo. DAVE

Yes, MEN do get weight loss surgery too. Unlike women, we tend to not CHAT
about it as much. I tend to be one of the EXCEPTIONS to this. I had the
Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy a little more than 6 months ago. Since then, I
have lost 103 pounds. I have had NO adverse side effects and am COMPLETELY
satisfied with the results of the surgery! Men tend to lose weight a bit
EASIER than women, and many of the ladies get a bit jealous of our success
when they hear of it, so that may be PART of what keeps some men OFF the
boards, I don't know. That, and our natural reticence to communication may
couple together and cause the few that DO get the surgery to closet
themselves and avoid reaching out to other men. WHATEVER the cause is, I am
here. If you have any questions, feel free to look me up and ASK me. I will
be happy to answer ANY that I can. I am NOT and EXPERT, mind you, I am just
a PATIENT that has done some RESEARCH, but I have SOME experience that can
help smooth the way for you if you have concerns or questions. Hugh

I am a 62 Year old male that had my RNY WLS on December 5, 2007 and I have
lost 135 Lbs. I have about 40 to go to my goal of a BMI of 24.9. I now
weigh less than I did when I was in High School. I have failed at diets
over the yearws and tried them all. I never would think about excersice,
but today I eat health and excersize several times a week and love it.
More than anything else is I love walking into a store and being a medium
shirt (15-1/2) rather than a 4XL (19-20). My waist went from 60 to 36 in
just 9 months. My wife loves the new me, but I still am the same guy that
was behind all that fat for so many years. Write me anytime, I am glad to
communicate. I think you now have heard fromt he three men that are not
afrade to speak out and support others male or female that want to get
started on the way to slim.

Statistically, more women than men have the surgery, but men tend to avoid
surgery at any cost. Men often have the same co-morbidities as women, and
can benefit greatly from it. Women have added need for iron so men
actually have it easier there. Yes, if you want a chance to have a life
where you are in control and finally are free from the knife and fork
syndrome, I'd check it out. It just might be for you. Dusty

My brother had this done, after me and my mother both did, and he looks
fabulous and couldn't be happier. He used to suffer from depression and
was never able to have any type of relationship. Now he is happily married
for over 10 years, has 3 children and is upper management in his job that
he started at the very bottom of his company in over 7 years ago. He does
not regret it for 1 second.
