Haven't had thrush but have an overgrowth of yeast (in mouth it's called
thrush) in my bowel. I was taking Nystatin pills but have not needed them
since surgery. I have been able to control the external symptoms topically
and they are greatly reduced. For thrush you can get a liquid swish and
swallow Nystatin from you PCP.

Standard cure for thrush is Nystatin liquid in which you either swish and
swallow or swish and spit, depending on if your thrush is down your
esoghagus as well. Call your PCP or an NP (Nurse Practitioner).

Yes. It is caused from the ketosis changes in your body. Go to the dr.
My Dr. prescribed some medicine for it. I forget the name of it, but it is
like a banana taste. You goggle with it. Takes a few days for it to clear
up, but if you leave it untreated it only gets worse. Good luck!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I had thrush after a neck surgery. I am prone to yeast infections
with antibiotics and this time I got thrush. It was really bad with lots
of canker sores popping up all over the place. I used nystatin(?) and it
finally went away but it took a long time and my tongue looked scarred. I
would have your doctor call in a prescription or get you in so you can
start getting rid of it. It can be painful.

Are you asthmatic, do you use Advair? It not the surgery that gave you
thrush but more likely medication your are taking that gave it to you.
What medications are you taking? Lisa

Yes, I have thrush right now! It is a yeast infection in the mouth and/or
esophagus. My doc says it may have been caused by the antibiotics I had in
the hospital. At 2 weeks post op, I was diagnosed with thrush and it
doesn't seem to be going away. I am gargling with Nystatin as prescribed
by my PCP, but it isn't helping. Yesterday, I had an appointment with my
Nut and she suggested I call my PCP back and tell her to try something
else. She said there is a pill that can be taken that only requires a one
time dose. I am going to call this morning to follow up on her advise.
Good luck to you!

Yes, I had it as well. Surgery date 3-11-08. My doctor prescribed Flagyl
before surgery as this is a common condition after RNY. Flagyl (spelling?)
is the one dose medication you take. At my second week check up I still
had the yeast on my tongue and my dr. prescribed a second dose that cleared
it up.

I get thrush from dry mouth.
Flagyl is an antibiotic... Diflucan is the one dose treatment for (vaginal)
yeast infections. It is not a very effective treatment for oral thrush...
There is a swish and swallow liquid and some lozenges called
"troches" that are used to treat thrush/yeast topically... works
much better with less chance of side effects.

I also have thrush I am postop from July 25th and it is actually a common
side effect from the antibiotics you were probably on during and after
surgery. I have noticed a slight difference with the nystatin but it does
take a bit to go away depending on how bad your case is.
Good luck, Jackie

Julia, Back in early Aug. 04, I had thrush after hip replacement surgery
caused by too many antibiotics. My PCP had me on Diflucan at first, one
pill twice every day for two weeks. It seemed like it went away but came
back in a couple of weeks. Had another 2 week dose and it still was not
completely gone. Then they put me on Nystatin, the swish and swallow
stuff. It took several months to finally get rid of it.

Hey there Julia,
Unfortunately, I am one of those people who gets a yeast infection whenever
I am put on antibiotics. It clears up with a 10 day course of oral
Diflucan. Aggravating.
