I saw that you had a RNY so your pouch should have been thee oz. in size or
near that, but you will have to ask your doctor for the details on the size
he gave you. I can eat more than three oz if it is something like peaches
that passes on down, but there is no way that I could get something dry
down without water to wash it through like a whole sandwich. Do you stop
drinking before eating and don't drink for 1 hour after a meal? I actualy
measure everything at home that I eat so I don't over do. When I am out, I
eat less than I would at home to make sure I am not streching my pouch.
Call your doctor andask him what he feels is normal. He may need to see
you.

Normal protocol on eating solids several months out, is 4 oz of protein,
very small amount of starch, and slightly more veggies. Try to take it
easy on breads. They can slow down weight loss. I had surgery in May 2006.
I attended support group meetings and found that bread was a
"problem" food for many people. My first sandwich, was a half a
sandwich toasted. Toasted bread seems to be easier tolerated. I rarely have
sandwiches some 19 months out. Nice to see that a military dependent can
have surgery also. I was a crtypto tech for the Navy Reserve for 25 years.

I eat around 5-6 oz of food per meal. I am just over 11 months out. I do
not eat sandwiches, but when I am forced to, I get a wrap (tortilla) so I
don't fill up on bread. It helps. I do love Subway - to the wraps are
awesome - a lot of them are high in protein. I can never eat a whole one,
but you get the idea. Also, there are days I can eat more and do. There are
days I eat less and do. There are days I cannot stomach the thought of food
and days that everything looks good. The trick is finding a medium ground -
premeasure or plan your meals so you know you are not overeating or
undereating. Hope that helps.

I can eat a whole sandwich (matter of fact I eat a turkey sandwich every
morning for breakfast). I couldn't eat a whole sandwich at first (I could
eat 1/4). But over time I have become able to tolerate the whole thing.
My husband can eat a double cheeseburger which I can't because I can't
handle all that meat. He is 2.5 years out and I am 4.5 years out. I
wouldn't worry about eating a sandwich--as long as you are not filling your
face with bad foods like sugars and junk! Everyone needs some bread in
their diet!! I eat whatever I want and seem to maintain. I just can't eat
much of it, LOL. Once when I was pregnant I wolfed down 2 sandwiches and
thought I was the biggest HOG ever! But I never could do it again. Also,
some days I am able to eat more, and some days some things make me sick,
and the next day they won't. Just think, a normal person could eat WAY
MORE than a sandwich if they wanted to.

Your pouch (all pouches for that matter) will stretch over time. This is
normal and unavoidable.
If you don't know how much you should be eating then you need to contact
your surgeon or nutritionist for guidance.
Surgery alone is not going to take off all the weight. You still have to
make healthy food choices and stick to the appropriate serving size. I
wish I could help you more...
One thing to keep in mind, just because you can eat a whole sandwich
doesn't mean you should.
Best wishes.
