Question:
Who drinks coffee or hot tea? I love it but use art. sweenter.
I used real sugar and found out that it makes me feel as if I am speeding and my heart races so I DO NOT use REAL Sugar. I like my coffee with artificial sweetner and some hazelnut or french vanilla flavoring. What about you? — Tana Mallard (posted on December 27, 2007)

I also love it. I also like to use those flavored syrups regular or sugar
free. I found that when using cane sugar it doesn't have as much of an
effect on me. I don't really use sugar in my coffee. I like the flavored
creamers. I also make protein lattes by adding any whey protein powder to
my coffee. Well you take care. Jeannie

It is always refreshing to see others are turning to the demon drink of
coffee. Always keep in mind that artificial sweeteners do not necessarily
contain no carbs-- in fact, FDA guidelines allow products with less than a
fractional amount of carbs to be classified as "no carb"--
however, if you are using a few packets of sweetener, these trace amounts
can add up. For me, I don't add anything to my coffee that doesn't add
caffeine (other than a little artificial sweetener).

I am an herbal tea drinker. I just had lap RNY surgery on 12/14/07. I
found that a teaspoon of honey in my hot tea does not bother me, and gives
a kick of sweetness. I also got packets of stevia sweetener from the same
health food store I get my protein powder from. It is similar to
artificial sweetener, but is all natural and sugar/calorie free. I have
used it to make hot cocoa with my fat-free milk and a spoonful of cocoa
powder.

I started drinking coffee again two weeks after RNY and have always used
Sweet and low , one pack per coffee mug ( two-three cups) and had no
problems. Still do. We are all different and react differently.

Sugar will tend to make your heart race. It differs with everyone, but too
much sugar or carbs can do that.

I've tried coffee/tea a couple of times since surgery but can't stomach it,
so to speak. That said, I can drink carbonated beverages with lots of ice
without problem. Go figure.

I can drink coffee, but no fruit tea. Used to drink lots of diet coke
before surgery. I had surgery 9 days ago and I enjoy drinking coffee.

Before my surgery I drank my coffee black no sugar (holdover from Weight
Watcher Days, I guess). I've been allowed to have coffee for a week now
(My doc says no caffeine for the first 6 weeks). I've put a quarter cup or
so in my morning protein shake which I make with coffee flavored Soy
Slender and Body Fortress Powder. For the most part during the day I drink
Chamomile Tea, and I'm going to try to stay away from demon coffee except
that little bit in the morning. I think I'm sleeping better at night.

I have tea in the morning with a little splenda and the FF/SF vanilla
creamer - it works fine for me - just a very small amount or over a long
time.

Yeah! Me too. I like Splenda in my coffee & tea. Occasionally I add a
bit of Carnation canned milk as well.

Good morning,
I read all the answers that have been given so far. The only thing I did
not read is that you should not be drinking caffenated coffee. You should
only drink decafe. Then you can count it toward your daily water intake.
And you should never drink carbonated beverages. They are a non no! As far
as sweetners, they should be fine I too, use them in my flavored coffee,
sugar free flavors of course. Have a great day!

I was an avid coffee drinker prior to surgery, and I loved my hot herbal
teas as well. Splenda has been my friend for years....but when I was
preparing for surgery I kicked caffeine and since surgery I only drink
herbal tea, non-caffeinated, with splenda because even when I tried decaf
coffee I got very ill feeling, and had to run to the restroom the entire
day. I tried it again, and same result. Coffee is no longer my friend I
guess... it makes me sad. I love the aroma and loved the comfort of it I
guess. Oh well....another vice I needed to kick. Best of luck!

I was able to use artificial sweetner in most things, but not my tea. My
daughter's dentist turned me on to Stevia. It is much sweeter than sugar,
but not an artificial sweetner. I have found it locally at Earth Fare and
Whole Foods. It is not a sugar. I don't really understand it, so you can
check it out online by searching "Stevia". I am a diabetic and
it is safe for me to use. It really makes my tea taste good. Hope this
helps. Phyllis
