I had my surgery in July. Lately all I want to eat is salty, crunchy foods. Is this

I don't know how normal it is, but I have been having a lot of the same
thing lately. I had an open RNY on June 7th and I absolutely crave salted
nuts, cashews, almonds, etc. My nutritionist says not to eat them, but I
do have a handful now and then just to curb the craving. I was never, ever
a sweets person before surgery. I was always a salty chips, bagels kind of
gal so I don't know if my body is just wanting to return to some old habits
or if I am actually needing somthing I am not getting any other way. I go
back to the doctor next week and I am definitely going to be bringing this
up. Good luck! Martina

Some people go through phases, and I've heard of several who crave crunchy
things. Texture is something that can be sensistive after surgery. I
found that dried peas (found at health food stores, etc.) solve this
problem. They cost $1.35 per pound, are crunch, and the best part--1/4 cup
has 6 grams of protein.

I am a year out tomorrow, and I asked around to some of my new friend that
I have met on OH, and found the same thing, we like salt alot more than
before. I find myself using alot more than I used to. I don't know why,
but you are not alone!

Salt has definatly become a more wanted items since surgery. I am 11 months
out and have found that salty and crunchy go hand in hand. I stay away from
chips but I have found that pork rines hit the spot and have quite alot of
protien also. The only problem with salt is that it can slow down your
weight loss because of the water retention that salt causes. Good luck.

I know what you mean. I had RNY 7/9/07. Now the only food I crave are
potato chips, nuts, pretzels etc. But I still watch portions and calories.
I have lost 87 lbs and don't want to screw up. Good luck and Merry
Christmas.
