IF you are taliking about a clear liquid diet prior to surgery -- some
surgeons don't make it a requirement. If you are speaking about after
surgery the surgeons office will provide you with a list of liquid diet for
a couple of weeks after surgery.

Clear liquids are pretty much anything that you can see through. Apple
juice, broths, jellos, sherbet (I know you can't see through it, but it is
on the clear liquid diet), teas, etc. After surgery, no caffienated drinks
as they are dehydrating. And, like the last person who responded wrote,
the physician will provide you with a list of clear liquids for before and
after. While it is true that alot of surgeons won't require you to go on a
clear liquid diet prior to the surgery. Alot of them will want you to for
the 2 weeks prior to your surgery or at the very least follow a strict,
protein primarily, few carbs, few fats diet to help shrink the liver. But,
if you are just going in for your consult, you have a long time to learn
everything. There are several books that you can buy or borrow from the
library. You can do an internet search using the keywords: weight loss
surgery & gastric bypass surgery and it will bring up several titles.
You can use an internet search engine like yahoo, google, etc or you can go
to Amazon or Barnes & Noble and do a search. Good Luck....

My doctor has a mandatory 2 day clear liquid prep and bowel prep on the
second day. At first I was annoyed about this but I am glad he did
it...it's really a good detox for your body and it wasn't bad at all. What
helped me was homemade broth I made from dark meat chicken. I simmered it
for several hours and then skimmed off the fat. By day 2 of the clears I
wasn't even hungry. I even lost 4 lbs! You can also have diluted apple
juice, diet snapple, sf ice pops and crystal lite. I am now 2 days post op
and the broth and jello are what I prefer!

Basically if light passes through it and no particulate matter settles out
of it, you should be OK.
