Question:
Frothing when you've had nothing to eat or drink...

I am exactly 3 weeks post-op today and everything has been going pretty well. Today, I had my first experience with frothing. I have had nothing to eat or drink all day, so I am very confused as to why this happened? Any advice?    — fearless317 (posted on October 30, 2006)

Robin, same for me today, but I will be 3 weeks on Friday........ I also had what felt lik bubbles stuck in my throat & a very tight feeling surrounding my strnum & my back, the aching was pretty bad. I then wnt into a gaggin & coughing reflex and finally frothed all over. Calld my Doctor and he told me to get some Gas X. That has helped alot. I'm having a terrible time with fluids and protein. Both of you guys, questioner and 1st poster........ please get in and get scoped. The timing is right (and your descriptions) for a minor, common problem. If fixed, it's miniscule. Left unfixed, it can become a major problem. It's not another surgery, nothing to fear, but please, BE CHECKED and don't take no for an answer.

MY questions for you is why are you going all day with out eating or drinking. You stomach was empty so it produces what we call flem. Lot of folks deal with this in the early days. I agree with Michelle. Make sure you don't have something stuck. Try some warm water or warn decaf tea & see if that helps. Call your Doc if it keeps happening or has not become better.

First you should not be going that long with nothing to eat or drink. As for me the only way I could keep from frothing was to continually take sips of water or lemonade (my only two drinks of choice). but just continually keep sipping your fluids and that should keep it away. Also get into the Dr. to make sure there are no other issues causing the frothing! Anne-Marie P. (13 months out)

I am 3 weeks out today as well and the last three days I had this problem and didnt know what it is called. But tonight it was so bad I wanted to die. It hurts so bad like something is stuck in the sternum and then this foam comes up. I also found out yesterday I have an incisional hernia. So I am going to the dr. tomorrow because I think there is something stuck and the dr. said its common and they put a balloon in there to re-open it. I just dont want to take any chances.. Id get it checked if I was you.

<--- 6 dilations here! My frothing started at 8 days post op! I was an early healer! Don't put it off one minute! As soon as you have the dilation you feel like a new person!
