Try room temperature. I am about 3 weeks out and have just now been able
to drink cold water.
Good luck! It will get better, I had a hard time getting all my water in
at first, also. No problems now!

I'm going to bookmark your question as I am *still* having water intake
issues at 3 months out. I know I don't drink enough and my skin looks
horrible because of it. I just can't seem to get it in.
Looking forward to the answers that are posted.

Actually, if you have a Wal-Mart Super Center near by, or your local
Wal-Mart has a large section of food, try GreatValue Drink Mix. It comes in
a tube of 6 containers, each makes 2 quarts. It doesn't have any sugar,
carbs, or calories. It comes in a wide variety of flavors, it's their
version of Crystal Light. It has a great taste, it tastes just like
Kool-Aid, only without the sugar. The Grape and the Strawberry are the
best, The Orange Early Rise is okay too. I do not recommend the iced tea or
the lemonade. We give it to our toddler because of the great taste and no
sugar.

I know just what you mean! Water hurt going down, yet I could sip slowly
crystal light. I drank only crystal light for the first month or so after
surgery and still drink more crystal light than I do water even after 5
years out. Sip slowly and crystal light is great even if you have to
dilute it a little. Take care and hang in there.

Just remeber to keep water by you at all times. Taking little teeny baby
sips is better that nothing. I am 16 months out and have lost 182 pounds.
So I know you can do it too.

I fell in love with propel fitness water after surgery after I bought a
whole case of fruit 2 0 (which I found out I hated, having never tried it).
Sip, Sip, Sip, Try differant temperatures, try adding stuff to it. sip,
sip, sip. Always have something in your hand. That helped a lot for me, I
walked around the house with a water bottle glued to my hand.

Sugar free popcicles also count as water and are easy to get down. I am
three months out and eat them by the ton when I am having problems getting
enough water...

I drank herbal tea- warm- my favorite right after surgery was Peppermint,
beofre surger and even now 6 mo out I love Peach as well as Cinnamon Apple.
I also ate a lot of sugarfree popsicles. However the warmth of the tea
seemed more relaxing. Donna 286-176-145

I am just shy of 14 months out. I lived on broth, decaf teas and sugar free
ice pops for the longest time. Jello also helped although I used baby
spoons for the fear of putting too much into my mouth and not letting it
all disolve. Was too afraid to suck on ice chips. As stated in previous
answers, let the water, teas, jello sit to room temp. But my closest friend
was the ice pop!!! By the way - I found out that the warm/hot tea expands
the pouch to making it a bit easier to eat either puree or solids. So have
it as your last liquid before eating (15 min. before meals) Keep that in
the back of your mind for future reference. Good luck to you - Judie

I too had a hard time with water. I ended up in the ER with kidney pain
due to me not getting enough. What I ended up doing was eating crushed
ice. I just hated water. Still do. But the crushed ice made it easier
for me to get it all in. Good luck.

I am 5 days out and I find it easier to get down warm drinks like decaf
herbal tea. I try to have at least 2 cups of herbal tea and a half cup of
warm broth in addition to other drinks.

You are not going to get all your water in in the beginning, right after
surgery. Do what you can, go slow, sip. Try really cold or room
temperture. Do protein with your water and you will accomplish both at the
same time.

Hey,
I used to love water before surgery, and really missed it after, but I just
could not drink it. I sipped broth and protein shakes and lived on sugar
free popsicles...LOVE THEM...life saver. I could only consume small
amounts of water and it just did not agree with me. I am now going on 3
years out from surgery and I have finally been able to drink water
again...boy did I miss it. I hope that you don't have to wait as long...but
crushed ice and popsicles really help.

Hi, hope you are feeling better. Try different temps. of water. You would
be surprised what a couple degrees can do. I ate sugar free popsicles like
crazy even though at that point (6 years ago) they were not allowed. The
biggest thing that saved me...Mint tea. I swear by it. It is very soothing.
Very healing. I love it still. Best wishes - Jeanne

Five days out. . .the water seems like you could float a boat I know. I am
now four years out and can down three bottles of water without blinking.
So it gets better, but at five days out I know all the water seems
daunting!
