I had the same problems and the doctor put me on medicine and it really
didn't help much but I came around at about 4months along. One of the
things I did was I pureed my meat with gravy and I was able to get it in
that way. Don't worry it will get better soon. Good luck

It took me until 7 months out before I could tolerate meat again. Still I
have to be cautious with meat everytime I eat it. I use a crock pot to
cook my meat till it falls off the bone - and I try to chew real good even
though I am not very good at that! I say give it time - there are plenty
of ways to get the protein in - shakes especially in the beginning, or with
cheeses. I also bought ANY WHEY tasteless protein (at GNC)and added it
into everything liquid. Good Luck!

At 8 weeks out I was still on soft foods. No Meats Allowed. I was eating
tuna , chopped very fine with a small amount of mayo and salt and pepper,
chicken, chopped very very fine with a bit of chicken broth or gravy to
moisten it and chewed chewed chewed. Mostly, at 2 months out I was eating
LITE Yogurt, mashed potatoes, hot and sour soup, cottage cheese, omletes
with bits of deli ham and cheese, deli ham and cheese rolls, and drinking
plenty of Protein Drinks..Still drink protein drinks every day . I am 2
years out now but I made MY goal at 8 months out and now I am below MY goal
and am at MY Doctors goal and have been for about 6 months , eat most
anything I want and I am loving it. I was size 22/24 now I am size 2 and
sometimes size 0/2 depending on how they are made. I started out at 216 lbs
now I am between 112 and 117 lbs. Email me if you would like.

Hi Peggy. I also had a problem with most of the foods we get nutrition
from for the first three months. It turned out that I had an obstruction
and had to go to the ER in the middle of the night three months out. They
did a second surgery to release three adhesions and correct a hernia. In
the meantime, everything I ate made me vomit. After the second surgery, I
can eat everything, but I have to chew thoroughly, and only eat small
portions. I found that UNJURY brand protien shakes were very tolerable,
and was the only way I got protien in the first few months. Now I eat a
lot of soy protien items---always in small quantities, and enjoy most
meats, now that I'm 11 months out. If you continue to be sick after
eating, and you are chewing thoroughly, and grinding your food fine, and
not eating more than your stomach can hold---( remember your mouth IS
bigger than your stomach at this point) then I would ask your doctor to do
a scan to see if you have an obstruction. Good luck to you

Eating meat may take some people longer than others. In reading these
posts, I'm finding out that all surgeons aren't do educate in the same
manner. My partner had the surgery and she (thank God), didn't have any of
the problems people are listing in these posts. She was told from day 1 --
have chewable flintstone vitamins and some type of chewable antiacid. She
did that for about 3-4 months and didn't have any stomach issues and she
had surgery almost 3 years ago. Find a protein drink that is sugarfree --
that should help you get your protein in. You are only 8 weeks out --
don't try to rush the process -- take your time and allow your body to
heal. You had major surgery and your body needs time to adjust to the idea
that you are nolonger eating all the things it likes -- at least for now.
