Question:
7 Weeks out and havent lost anything for a week.
Today Im 7 weeks. Have any of you plateaued this early? Also, I have only lost 24 lbs since surgery. That just seems like so little for a surgery that is supposed to force the weight off. I feel like Im eating almost the same amount I did before surgery, but I know that cant be possible. Im hitting Curves daily. Im so discouraged and beginning to wish I had never had this surgery. Im just not getting the results that so many others are getting. — Courtney B. (posted on April 21, 2006)

24lbs in 7 weeks is amazing - you should be very pleased and very excited.
plateau's will come along the way. i am 6 months post op and have had 2
major ones - each one lasting a MONTH. just hang in there and the weight
starts moving again. going to curves is a great thing - i do it also.
keep your head up high - you have done a great job so far. i am 6 months
out and 94lbs down. i look back and the first 2 months were the hardest -
then it gets easier and more fun when people notice your loss. Good Luck!

Anne, my loss has been gain and lose up to now. The first 3 weeks I was
losing a lb a day. Then from week 4 to now, I have only lost around 8 lbs.
I have been gaining and losing, gaining and losing this entire time. I know
that the gaining is probably my bowels full, but Ive gained almost 4 lbs at
a time! You have done great! 94 lbs in 6 months is AMAZING! Thank you for
the encouragement.

COngratulation on your incredible weight loss. You had your surgery 7
weeks agao and you lost how much? 24 Lbs. Have you try to lift at the gym
a 24 lbs bar? It is a lot of weight to loose in so little time 49 days
only=7weeks. You lost 0.40LB per day almost 1/2 Lb. a day. Close your eyes
take a deep big breath and be happy. You are doinf very well and you are
on the right track. You did not gain all you weight overnight and you are
not going to loose the weight over night, Let your body do it's job and
it's own paste. I guarantee you you will loose the weight much faster that
you gained it as long as you follow your doctor's and the nutritionist
instructions with manipulating the system and the food plan designed for
their patients.
My 1st 4 weeks I gained 12 Lbs. did not loose any weight the following 8
weeks But lost 102 Lbs within the 1st year after the open GBP SURGERY and
the rest of the weight took me few more years to loose and shape up my
body. I am 10 years out and maintaining my weight loss. I still eat 3
meals a day and 3 healthy snacks with lots of protein and drink my water
and take my vitamins.
Good Luck and welcome to the looser club.
I hope I am able to help you.

I just love you guys, Joann and Seanna. You guys are my life force. Thanks
guys as I sit here and tears well up. I know I will get past this, but just
seems so early to have a plateau, you know. You know that fear, Joann, the
fear that I will be the only person this surgery doesnt work for. Its hard
to get past. Love you guys too.

Hi Courtney... it is common for depression to set in because in the back of
our minds we think we are gonna wake up thin overnight.... not so... write
us in 1 year and tell us what you weigh. It is not healthy for you to
continue to lose at break neck speed. I plateaued at 4 weeks for like 3
weeks and Then It picked up speed again. After a few months I lost 10-15
lbs a month for months 3-6 and now that I am 11 months out I lose maybe 3-5
lbs a month. It is a gradual process and you did not become overweight
overnight so don't expect to lose it that fast. It will happen I know it
feels like you will be th eone it won't work for... this is not true if you
follow the rules... you will lose be patient and tell me in 6 months if you
wish you didn't have surgery!!! You will do great...

I was looking at your profile and see that you lost weight before surgery,
too. The thing is, your body will plateau, and it will *seem* like it is
doing it much earlier when you lose weight before surgery. Your body is
just doing what it does, but eventually it will give it up. It took me 3
months to lose 50 lbs and I started out significantly heavier than you and
did not lose anything just prior to surgery either. In fact, I did plateau
2 weeks out for 3 weeks. I lost 17 lbs the first 2 weeks, then nothing for
3 weeks after that. But it eventually will happen, and sometimes seemingly
overnight. I was told then that it was common, and oh how I've seen so
many fretting like I was doing. But everyone, including myself, feels
like they are going to be the one exception who will not lose weight. So
try not to sweat it. I know it's hard, but believe me, you are not done
losing. Your body is just taking a break. It will continue to do that at
times. In fact, I only lost weight right after I got my period. I
wouldn't lose a pound until then. That was my pattern. Hope that helps!

Dina & Stephanie, thank you for your words of encouragement. Maybe it
is a kind of depression. I dont stress out and have never been depressed,
so maybe thats what Im feeling. I have never felt these emotions. lol Ok, I
GIVE UP THE SCALE! I am not going to weigh anymore! That will be my
salvation. I will only weigh monthly. I PROMISE! Thanks everyone!

Hi Courtney, don't get discouraged. First off, you are probably considered
a light weight (less than 120 lbs needed to lose) so the weight might come
off slower than someone that needs to lose more. Here's the link to the
Lightweight board, I recommend you visit there and talk to other
lightweights: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/wls_lightweights/
You've body has been through allot and needs to pause and rest
occasionally, just be sure to follow your post op plan, eat the amounts and
at times your surgeon recommended, drink your water, take your vitamins and
keep up your exercise routine. This time next year you will be in awe of
how far you've come. Relax, stay positive and enjoy the ride.

Please don't get discouraged. Going to Curves your converting fat to
muscle which ways more your actually losing inches. 1lb fat to convert
muscle which is dense weighs 2.2lbs I am signed up to start going to the
YMCA and start classes as soon as I go for my next appointment. I'm 8
weeks right now at 73lbs. You have to realise you have lost more weight.
When you had the surgury they loaded you up on IVF which increased your
weight as much as 10-20lbs. You also realise the size of the person makes
them lose weight fast. If the weight is over 300 or more the weight comes
off a whole lot fast then those under 300.
