Question:
Ladies...do any of you have a "different" smell about you since surgery?

Since my surgery I've noticed that I have a strange smell about me when I go to the bathroom. It's not really a foul smell, just a different smell. Is anyone else experiencing this or know what might be causing this?    — JamieGarvey (posted on March 1, 2006)

I didnt see anything about you on your page but I am assuming you had surgery And it was just recently... If so it could be the anisthesia wrong spelling but anyway I went through that once and it was aweful I didnt want anyone getting near me because THEY smelled... It stayed for months... I was so happy to get out side the hospital to breath fresh air... just a thought...

Hi Jamie, Yes I have very odd smell about me. It was very strong right after surgery but I am 3 mo post op now and it is not as bad but it is still there. I hear it will soon go away. Mandy

Hi Jamie, after surgery I had a foul smelling urine for awhile. I honestly don't remember how long it lasted. I have ahd the same when I had my Tummy Tuck and Bowel Obstruction surgeries also. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the anesthesia. It will go away. Tina

Ketosis, a NORMAL part of the fast loss phase.

I wonder if you are in ketosis and what you are smelling is your urine (or residue). I have heard the smell of ketosis be described fruitty, rotten banana, nail polish remover... any of that sound familiar? If you are having any itching, pain or unusual discharge, that could be an infection and you might want to see your PCP. Good luck!

Yes, I did notice the same thing. It was sort of a weird smell, not a bad one. I have heard it has to do with being in the state of ketosis(sp?) after surgery, which is due to the lack of carbs. Anyway, I do know that it did go away and my normal scent returned after a few weeks/months. Perhaps I just got used to the scent, but I don't believe that is the case. Give it some time... you will be back to normal before you know it! If not, get checked out... you could have an infection; although I doubt it. Have a great day! Amber
