Question:
I'M GOING CRAZY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BEWARE!! VERY LONG!!! I HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR SURGERY SINCE JUNE 2003. MY ORIGINAL SURGERY DATE WAS FOR APRIL 28, 2004. I GOT MOVED UP TO MARCH 19TH THEN MARCH 1ST BECAUSE MY INSURANCE WILL BE ENDING IN MAY. WELL ON FEB. 24TH WHEN I WENT FOR MY FINAL CONSULT, THE SURGEON TOLD ME THAT IT WILL HAVE TO BE POSTPONE BECAUSE HE INJURIED HIMSELF WILL PERFORMING SURGERY. WELL MY NEW DATE WAS SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 26TH. I GOT A CALL ON MARCH 11 STATING THAT THE SURGERY HAS TO BE POSTPONE AGAIN AND I WOULD GET A CALL AS TO WHEN MY NEW DATE WILL BE. HE IS THE ONLY SURGEON IN THE AREA THAT PERFORMS WLS (I ALREADY CHECKED). THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOLD ME TO GET A REFERAL FOR A SURGEON OUT OF NETWORK. THAT WOULD MEAN THAT I WOULD HAVE TO TRAVEL TO CLEVELAND, DAYTON, OR COLUMBUS. THE PROBLEM WITH THAT IS I'M SURE THE OTHER SURGEONS ARE BOOKED INTO THE SUMMER. SO WHAT DO I DO? WAIT IT OUT? TRY WITH ANOTHER SURGEON AND HOPE I CAN GET IN BEFORE MAY? OR WHAT? 1 MORE THING, HOW CAN SOMEONE INJURY THEIR NECK, SHOULDER WHILE PERFORMING SURGERY? — CAPETRA J. (posted on March 14, 2004)

I would call the other surgeons' offices & explain the time sensitivity
of your insurance. They may be able to squeeze you in or slot you in to a
place on the schedule that has been cancelled by someone else. I will have
my fingers crossed for you!

Your doctor likely injured himself trying to move or help move a patient in
the or. Happens all the time. Injuries to the neck, shoulders, knees and
back are very common to doctors and nurses. The doc is not just operating,
he helps move the patient around also. I am a nurse. Been there and done
that!!!!

Maybe it happened for a reason. Your original date wasn't until April
right? Maybe that was when it was meant to be, and moving the date was
NOT meant to be. Relax, and look at it as a sign that it just isn't your
time yet. Now...you may want to rethink this theory if it gets past April
28th =)

Perhaps your surgeon could intervene on your behalf? I would explain to
him the deadlines you are facing and ask him to be straight with you about
whether or not he thinks he'll likely be able to do the surgery in time.
If not, since you've jumped through all the hoops and waited for hims so
long, maybe he can intercede on your behalf with one of the surgeons you
could go to? Chances are that he knows them and perhaps they'd be more
willing to do a "favor" for him than if you appealed to them
directly. Just an idea. Hope things work out for you!
