Question:
Does Certain food induce pain for you?
I have noticed that I am near 10 months out and every time I eat yogurt I get alot of pain in my mid stomach. The only other time I've noticed this is prior to surgery when I had ulcers. Has anyone else had experiences like this with certain foods? — Noreen M. (posted on February 23, 2004)

I notice that my protien drinks sometimes cause gas. Also anything with
carbs. So far the only milk products I consume is cheese and Carb
countdown milk, and those don't seem to bother me.

Almost anything dairy(recently lactose intolerant) anything really high in
fat or grease will make me double over. So I have to be careful..

I also have pain when I eat ice cream, drink milk and now I think it is
also with cheeses. I talked to my pcp and he said that I probably was
lactose intolerant now. I am trying to take one of the medications for
this before I eat any dairy but so far no luck

I to got ulcer only two weeks after Wls. My biggest problem is garlic. even
in small amount i can not handel it. I have to read the lables on all my
foods now to make sure that garlic is not in it at all. The pain i get is
unreal at times. I have had items that i did not think would have garlic in
it only to finde out after eating and being in pain. Then I look at the
lable and it can be near the bottom and I am done.

I wouldn't say alot of pain-eating with a pouch ulcer was a lot of pain-but
certain foods do cause some pouch pain to me even at 2 years post-op. For
some reason, reheated fish. Fresh broiled fish, no problem, heat it up
later in the microwave and ooohh...also anything acidic like an orange on
an empty stomach will hurt. Lastly, chinese food causes severe pain..not
sure why, but many other post-ops have similar issues with Chinese food...
