Question:
I am 11 months lap RNY post op. In a wk. I am scheduled for abdominal surgery #3.
I am scheduled to see a plastic surgeon in 2 days. My desire (since abdominal wall is obviously weakened- hence 3 hernia surgeries/3 months) is to have a tummy tuck covered by insurance as well. I have BCBS of NC. I need responses quick! This hernia is the largest. Surgeon said he'd have to open up entire tummy & put in a huge screen this time- covering entire stomach area. Seems sensible to me a muscle tightening tummy tuck would be of benefit. Any fast feedback? Thanks! — Ann M. (posted on August 22, 2003)

All insurances are different so you would have to check with your insurance
company. I had nine hernias repaired and my insurance paid for that (with
the surgical mesh put in to prevent future hernias) but wouldn't even
consider an abdominoplasty. They consider abdominoplasty a cosmetic
surgery; however they did agree to pay for a panniculectomy which is the
removal of the apron. My wls surgeon did the hernia repair and the
panniculectomy.
