Question:
Is soup considered a liquid?
Can one have soup WITH their meal? Or is it considered a liquid and should not be consumed at the same time? — Ginger M. (posted on February 16, 2003)

Good question. I think it depends on the consistency of the soup. The
hearty, stock soups with lots of meat/potato and veggies should stay in the
pouch for a while, but those broth type soups or cream soups will pass
right thru and I would avoid having it with a meal.

Soup with stuff in it is off limits for me...it is a mix of liquid and
solids. Cream soups made with low fat milk have protein, and count as
"solids" for me. Check with your nutritionist.

My nutritionist says that soup is mixed and we should never eat it. She
suggests straining the broth from the solids and eating the solids as a
meal. The broth part alone is liquid, and you can have it 30 minutes after
finishing the solids. (Pure broth with no solids is considered liquid
only.) Good luck!
