Question:
Did we scrap the idea of an AMOS Convention?
A few months ago I remember a post about our possibly doing some *brainstorming* to have our FIRST EVER-AMOS Convention. I believe our own, Linda Almonte thought of it. What a SUPER idea!! Did we scrap the idea though, since no one has said anything more about it? This would give us the opportunity to meet each other~~in person~~I'd like that. Also it would be an opportune time to "show off" to the world, that we are healthier than some folks who spend their lives dieting. What are your thoughts? — yourdivaness (posted on January 22, 2003)

Love the idea...but where would it be held? I, course would suggest
Washington DC...Not just cause I live here, but cause it's an awesome city.
Yeah, if any type of committee gets formed to plan this, definitely count
me in. I am a soon to be concierge (again) and get off on planning stuff
like this...

I love the idea, but would like to see it more centrally located than
either coast so that people could afford the trip!

Sounds like a great idea to me! I would love to get together with fellow
AMOS family members! Perhaps it could be broken down into regions such as
a east, west and central region; those who could afford to attend more than
one could certainly be welcome! Just a thought. Keep me posted please.

It was more than just an idea it is in the works! There is a team working
on it, you should see details coming out about it soon. It is a
complicated process to put together a convention of that size, but we have
a great team of people that specialize in this putting it together. We are
thinking it will probably happen next fall. I will keep you updated!

Think that is a wonderful idea, and glad to see that it is being worked on.
It certainly is a hugh undertaking, but could be more beneficial than
anyone could possibly imagine. It could open up a forum for education,
legislation, and research as well. I would suggest someone entertaining
the idea of regional divisions or state chapters that individuals could
belong to. They could network in smaller areas, which in turn would report
and support a "National" level division. Possibilities are
endless. Gosh!!! listen to me -- did I ever get carried away or what.
But, it is such an exciting idea. So many people need help and support,
and who better to provide that than a system like AMOS. I know in my short
journey I find comfort, support, and education within this group.

I am glad to hear it's in the works, but I also agree with Suzi - it would
be difficult for many if it were on either coast. Something more
centralized, like Chicago, St. Louis, New Orleans, or even Denver, etc...
would be easier for more people to make it.

Actually air fares to either coast are often cheaper than air fares to the
middle of the Country, however, I am open to where ever. I like to travel!
Rebecca, I agree with DC though, if I had my druthers...Linda, where is
the Committee thinking of having it??

I say we scrap the whole debate about where to have the AMOS Convention
here in the US and shoot for holding it in PARIS (or London, or Athens or
Venice or...) Hee hee!

Original poster here...Thanks everyone for responding. Linda, so it's in
the works, huh? GREAT!! We ALL would like to help you, so please don't
leave us out LOL. I'm sure it takes a lot of work and there could be
various *committees*=T.E.A.M. I know we all are aware of what that mean,
Together Everyone Achieves More!! Way to go Linda, will you get back with
me?

VEGAS BABY! VEGAS! Many flights are subsidized by the casinos also if we
have enough confirmed deposit paying members then we can get some good
deals.

WHat a great idea! I think there would be a big turnout, I'd love to meet
everyone on this site. I vote seconds for Vegas, too! Awesome place, and
instead of traveling to other cities, you have small versions of big cities
in one place! Keep us updated if there is a convention :)

I think near some casino's would be cheaper air fare ...they do give
discounts to draw folks to their state to gamble... so take advantage of
the air fare discount rates... neat idea... to let the world know there is
other options than being obese!!! Still surprised that so many doesn't know
about this tool ... now days.
