Question:
Am I measuring my food properly?

16 weeks out, and I'm still not sure if I'm doing this right. I really want this surgery to work for me, but I'm not sure if I'm measuring things properly. Seems like I can still eat..I'm not forcing anything, I'm losing, but why do I feel like I'm "wide open" as far as my pouch is concerned? I want to go back to eating 2-3 ozs. like in the beginning, and not actually drink anymore than 6-8 ozs of water at a time...does that make sence to any of you? I don't want to embarrass myself any more than I have. I just think I may be obsessed with losing this weight that I'm writing down EVERYTHING I eat and drink. I feel so much more energetic...I don't want it to end. Should I purchase baby utensils? What is a *staple line disruption* in a LAP RNY? I can eat a whole bag of popcorn and not feel sick, should I? What am I doing wrong? I couldn't stand it if this surgery failed me...I've come so far already...    — yourdivaness (posted on December 27, 2002)

hi there :) dont feel emberessed, you have concerns and what better place to go right? :) when i was very new post op, i was obsessed with the scales and measured everything. i found those 1 0z elixer type cups to be very helpful at first . i used them religiosly as i did not want to push it and wanted to know the exact amount i was consuming, id also use a half cup measuring thing too. now im not obsessed with the scales or the measuring anymore, im so used to the amounts from when i was measuring that i dont need them anymore, but from time to time, ill test myself by measuring the food ive put before me, and i was right on. i also just reley on my pouch to tell me ive had enough. youll notice that you are able to eat more of certain things than others. for example, the popcorn, it melts in your mouth , so does watermelon. lettuce sorta does the samething. if it were a solid meat or cheese, you wouldnt be able to eat as much as you did of the popcorn. ive talked with different wls people and they have all said the same about popcorn. also a little info, i eat popcorn occasionally but i donot buy the light popcorn as it has more carbs in it then the regular. best of luck to you. :)

There is not SLD in your particular type of RNY. You're transected, so your two stomachs are not going to reconnect, unless you're one of a very teensy minority, but let us assume you are not. Your risk of post-op leak passed long ago. Try eating that 2-3 oz every 2-3 hours, and not going the whole 4-5 hour span. You won't be ravenous, so you may feel satisfied on less. Also, your meal is done in 15 min, or so. Maybe those will help you feel satisfied with the amount your head would like?
