Question:
Do insurance companies have to be told what you are having done?
Do the insurance companies have to be told that you are having a gastric bypass or can you just go in there for scar tissue removal from previous surgery and gall bladder removal? Do doctors have to tell them everything? Is it illegal? I know some hospitals tie tubes at catholic hospitals when a c-section is involved and don't imform the hospitals. I was just wondering — [Anonymous] (posted on March 26, 2001)

Many times, before an insurance company will process a claim, they need the
Operative Report. The doctor can't dictate that falsely. It is illegal -
insurance fraud can cause a doc to loose his license.
