Question:
HAS ANYONE SUFFERED A STROKE AND THEN BEEN ABLE TO HAVE SURGERY?
I SUFFERED A STROKE ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO AND NOW AM INTERESTED IN SURGERY, AM WONDERING IF THIS WILL HINDER IN ANYWAY. — SUSAN F. (posted on March 9, 2001)

Good Morning! I had a mild stroke called a Transient Ischemic Attack this
past June. All my doctors & nurses told me how very, very lucky I was
to have had this warning stroke rather than the full-blown type that leaves
one physically & mentally impaired. I too feel fortunate and with all
the current, new & revised drugs I am on for Heart: Atrial Fibrillation
(causes blot clots to be released) and being on Coumadin since June I
understand your concern & dilemma regarding the surgery. I had my
surgery on October 18 and as of this morning have lost a total of 88
pounds. If I had another mild stroke now I would be in much better
physical shape to survive it I FEEL! The surgery has/is saving my life. I
still have heart probs & been hospitalized twice w/atrial Fib as well
as chest pain, but it is un-related to the WLS surgery itself. My
cardiologist was on stand-by and I was place in Intensive Care for the
Atrial Fib that heart went into the afternoon of the surgery, but if your
surgeon & cardiologist are both aware of your condition, PRIOR to the
WLS surgery they can better plan/prepare for any probs. I hope you the
very best in your decision & if I may help any please contact me
direct. Regards, Thom in Dallas <88> pounds.
