Question:
Dizzy and light headed???

I had my RNY surgery 8/15/11 and have really been doing pretty good. Recently I have been experiencing dizziness and light headedness. Also, uncomfortable feeling in my stomach, almost nausea. Has anyone else experienced this and how long before it passe?    — acabral08 (posted on September 28, 2011)

Well what have you been eating? exercising? When do you feel dizzy and light headed? When does your tummy feel sick? After eating, drinking taking meds?

I am not giving you advice, but we just spoke about this at my RNY support group. There was this gal that just had surgery, she said she feels like fainting and she is dizzy. Our NUT asked her if she is getting in her protein and fluids. She proceeded to say, no she just can't do it, the whole room jumped on her. Make sure you are getting in all your protein and fluids. Go to your Dr. ASAP

Go to your Doctor. Constipation makes me nauseated. Dulcolax several times a week takes care of that for me. Pace yourself, I was not able to exercise for a few months. My Dr. said do according to my feelings. I was sooo tired for weeks. Be sure to get enough protien and WATER !!Add lemons to the water makes it easierat first. Good luck..

There are many things that can cause dizziness and light headedness. 90% have to do with nutrition. Make sure you are getting your protien, taking your vitamins and getting ALOT of water. If none of that makes a difference you need to see your DR or atleast talk to the nurse. Different health issues such as blood pressure, migraine meds, sinus meds to much or not enough sugar. Talk to your nurse about it. As far as the nausea that could be a million different things. Is it only after you eat or drink? Is it all day long? Does it only happen after meds or vitamins? What kind of iron are you taking? One of the things that I had the biggest issue with in my first year was finding a brand of iron chewables that did not upset my stomach. It also took me some time to figure out that the uncomfortable feeling and nausea after I ate was my new "tool" telling me I ate the wrong thing or ate to fast or ate to much. Keep a log of exactly when your symptom occure and then talk to the Dr or Nurse they have heard it all and may be able to help you figure it out.

My WLS was 27-Dec-10 and I have also had this issue occasionally as well as other WLS patients have complained about this dizziness. I am not absolutely sure what it is but I was told to drink something like gatorade, pedialite, 100 plus or something with some electrolytes to balance your body so this probably has something to do with nutrition. Keep your body hydrated and maybe drink a gatorade lite daily to see if this goes away. If not, see your doctor. Best of luck...
