Linda, remember that wls is a lifestyle change, not a diet. We have to change the way we eat for the rest of our lives. It's good sometimes to go back to your post op eating plan for a while. Protein will always be important, eat that first, then veggies, fruits and some starches if you are still hungry. Limit sweets and white starches to almost none. Eat slowly, chew each bite well, and enjoy what you are eating. Watch your portion sizes, measure if you have to. You shouldn't be able to eat a lot at one time, but fill up on protein, it keeps you full longer. Fish, lean meats, chicken, cottage cheese, yogurt, almonds, beans, all are good sources of protein. Make sure you get at least 65 grams in per day. Be careful not to eat in between meals. A snack of some cubed low fat cheese, a stick of string cheese, fruit, or a cup of yogurt is fine and high in protein. Eat nothing after 7:00p.m.! Drink lots of water or other calorie free fluids like crystal lite. You can do this! Good luck. Bonnie

Like previously stated, eat your protein and do not forget to drink at least 64 ounces of water. I found that with the cooler weather, I greatly reduced my water intake, so now I buy the bottled water and set out FOUR bottles a day and make sure I consume them. Also with the yogurt, check the LABEL..some yogurts have as much sugar per serving as ice cream!

Bonnie's reply is great, but I would add a couple of things my nut said to me. First, it doesn't matter what time of day you eat, what matters is the amount of calories you consume each day and making sure to distribute them throughout the day. Second, if you are feeling hungry after a balanced meal then start drinking a full glass of water half an hour before eating and/or fill up on fruits and veggies (make sure you eat your proteins first!). Lastly, up your protein intake from 60 to 80 minimum. I wish you the best of luck and a Merry Christmas.

I'm at the tail end of my weight loss process (I've got 28 lbs to go- plastic surgery in January to remove excess skin surgeon thinks it's about 15-20 lbs). I've been going to Weight Watchers to help with process. I concentrate on protein and then vegies and fruits to round out my eating plan. For myself, I find that if I go to a meeting once a week, I keep myself focused and get extra support. Also, getting on the scale once a week, I keep myself accountable to keep up all the hard work that I've done.

Linda, I applaude you for having the courage to expose your heart felt pain that is associated with weight gain after WLS. I am 14 years veteran post-op from WLS and the way I am able to maintain my weightloss is by exercising and have a buddy support system to keep my food choice clean and healthy. I also have to make sure to take my Vitamins supplement daily.....It is a daily choice and a conscious decision and a life change. Along with the behavioral changes I also had to make life changes. I had to led go of the dysfunctional relationships and to surround myself with supportive people. IT's not an easy journey buta much rewarding and a healthier me......If you need any help, please don't hesitate to contact me directly and look up my personal story on my profile......Best of luck to you and Happy Holidays!
