Question:
HELP!! I'm Suddenly GAINING WEIGHT!!

I had lap RNY on October 29th 2009. It was painless with no problems. As a matter of fact I wondered if the surgery had even taken place since it all went so textbook perfect! The only visual proof of the procedure were the 5 band-aids on my tummy. With the exception of 2 weeks of maintaining, I've lost steadily each week from 1 to 4 lbs per week. Now, all of a sudden this week, I'm gaining a POUND A DAY!! I have no idea what's going on. I'm exercising religiously, eating proteins first (60 grams per day), drinking 64 oz of fluids per day, and keeping my calories at about 700 to 800 per day with no sugar or carbs at meals or in between and no in-between snacks and I MEASURE EVERYTHING! I have no idea why I'm gaining weight! I'm "freaked out" and have no clue what to do to stop this! Any advise would be welcome.    — annteekee (posted on February 18, 2010)

You might want to check with your Nut. but it may be time to "up" your calories a bit. Change up your protiens or your meals or snacks and add more water. Seems like we get in a rut eating the same things over and over. Also it may just be hormones and your retaining water. Good luck wounds like your doing great so don't worry too much.

I agree withthe last poster - you might be eatig too FEW calories for as far out as you are and how much weight y ou've lost. I had RNY, but around that time for me, as counter-intuitive as it was for me, I had a BIG stall on the scale. We discussed in my support group, and it was suggested to me to up my calories slightly and also my carbs just a touch (I was getting the proper amount of protein already) and see what happens. If you are workign out in any way, shape, or form, you need to compensate w/ a little bit more calories. Definitely call your NUT. Also, are you measuring yourself? Are your measurements also increasing? Every time I have a stall ( or even a small weight gain), I am still losing inches. Sometimes it's that I am retaining water.

Also, Sandy, don't weigh yourself every day. As someone above said, you could just be retaining water.
