You could have the answer within one day or it could be a couple of weeks.
Most states require an answer within 30 days. The amount of time will
depend on your individual situation. I called my insurance company the day
after my info was faxed and I'm glad I did. There were problems with the
paperwork and they had denied me. I cleared up the problem and was
approved two days later.
Good luck!

PS...At this point you have probably spent months possibly even years
making your decision. You should be feeling happy and relieved. Why are
you scared? Are you not prepared? If you are scared possibly you should
rethink what you are doing. Please talk your feelings over with your
surgeon.

Hi..sometimes we are scared of the unknown..I was extremly happy when mine
was at this point! Know that you and your Dr. have done your work and go
from there.
BE HAPPY! (old song) Best of luck can't wait to see you on the LOSERS
bench!

Trust me. You are not alone in this feeling. I've been there and still am
at times. I'm still preop 3 month and been waiting since June 2009. This
is such a major decision and a major life change the brain is having a hard
time arguing with itself and the rest of your body and then there's YOU.
It is, regardless of others, a worrisome and serious decision. The only
thing I can say has helped is talking to family, close friends, this forum,
and my church family. Some of them don't understand and are no support.
Most are supportive and those are the ones I tend to talk to more and not
my unsupportive and nonunderstanding ones. It's difficult and I still
struggle but I also consider the alternative -- cold hard ground, continue debilitating
existence, miserable, tired, cranky, head games with food (I understand
this goes on, maybe forever), ache, AND then there's my grand daughter so
full of energy and fun I want to be there and play with her, help my own
kids more, do things I used to do and want to do -- testing my faith. I so
hope we both will reap the rewards, benefits, and better health as everyone
postop states, but for now it is difficult and we must get through this
together as "electronic" friends and support.

Christy, I understand being afraid - I was there 2 1/2 years ago. My
insurance did approve me within a couple of days. I was in good hands with
the Cleveland Bariatric Center and my life has changed - for the better.
Good luck to you!

Congrats on getting your paperwork sent in. It is exciting and scary. If
anyone tells you they were never scared or worried, I would have to say
they are lying. Everyone gets nervous about it - first if you will be
approved and second about the surgery and after. Just keep up with the
insurance company - If you don't hear anything after a week, call the
surgeon and find out about how long it usually takes for them to hear from
the insurance company. If it is past that time, call the insurance
company!! I think I was approved in 2 days, but I also knew my insurance
company was very quick about it. Also, make sure you are approved for the
correct thing. I kept getting approval letters for the lap band. The doc
had accidentally sent in the wrong surgery. Luckily it was all taken care
of before the surgery date.
And there is one thing that feels better than being thin - it is being
healthy. You will be thin but it is no good if you aren't healthy enough
to enjoy it.
Good luck on the rest of your journey and keep us posted with what is
happening!

Be happy! The hard part is over! I had my answer within 3 weeks and had
my surgery last Monday. I have had none of the issues people tell you
about and am already down some.
Congrats on this HUGE milestone - you'll be able to start your new life
before you know it!

Be happy, be scared it is all okay. My information is with my insurance
company as of yesterday and I just finished all my medical tests. I only
have to meet with my surgeon's Nut to review after surgery diet and then I
will be scheduled assuming my insurance approves. I am scared something
will go wrong with all my paperwork, happy it is finally moving forward,
scared of the unknown and happy I might actually get my health back. It is
all good. Good luck!!!
