Funny you should mention this. I had noticed that I sing better...clearer
notes, higher notes...more wind...but I thought I was just being crazy so I
hadn't mentioned it to anyone until seeing your post.

Don't know for sure -- I couldn't carry a note before the surgery and I
still can't!!!
Have a great day!

I know that the excess weight tends to weaken the throat muscles and that
is why many obesse people have sleep apnea. Since I lost 60+ pounds I no
longer need my sleep apnea machine and I think I can sing easier and get
less winded. I don't know if my sound has improved any but at least I'm
able to prais the Lord louder and longer. God bless you.

Hi! I am not a singer, but it seems logical that one would sing better.
After all, losing the weight and fat that makes us winded and strangles our
organs is gone, seems like we would do just about everything
better,,,except eat large amounts of food! hehehe best of luck to you !

Hi. My Husband and I are the Worship Pastors at our Church. Before I had
surgery, I weighed 408, and had to sit while I led worship. Now, I weigh
260, and can sing standing, running, doing pretty much anything. So, my
opinion would be yes, you can sing much better!!

I sang for eight years on the praise team at my church before I had weight
loss surgery and during that time I took voice lessons to strengthen the
muscles that helped me to sing. Post surgery, I've not been singing on the
praise team for various reasons but I'm getting ready to rejoin. I have to
say that I've found EVERYTHING easier since losing almost 100 lbs., and
still losing! I think if you have a dream to sing you should follow it!
You'll definitely have more confidence with yourself as well as an easier
time of strengthening the muscles to help you breathe better to carry notes
for a longer period of time. If you have the desire to sing, it's not an
accident!! You start preparing yourself to follow this dream, Latoya!! You
will be amazed at what will happen when you start losing the weight and
feeling better about every area of your life!! I'm looking forward to
hearing great things about you, girl!!!!!!
Love,
TB

Hi Latoya, I am a Karaoke Junkie and was told I sang well and had a pretty
voice before my RNY... today I am told that I have such a better range and
that I sound better than before my surgery (9-17-09)YES I can hold notes
way longer, it's easier to hit the higer and lower notes now! God bless and
you will definitely be able to sing out Praises to Our Lord after your
Gastric Bypass surgery as you lose all that fat around your lungs etc!
