Question:
Does everyone have hair loss?

I have two friends who had the gastric bypass. One of my friends hair became very thin and a year later it started growing back. The other friend never lost any hair. I am planning on having the surgery this year and my main concern is my hair loss as well. My hair is already thin but for the past month I started taking Bioton and its helping. I would start taking something for the hair.

I'm over six years out and never lost any of my waist length hair. I started using Tressamay (?) protein shampoo before surgery and I don't know of that was what helped or not but I have used it since.

I've always had long, thick hair and was really worried about this too, but I was assured that as long as I keep my protein intake up that hair loss shouldn't be a problem. So far so good.

I am 4 mons. post-op RNY and mine has just started coming out like crazy. I've decided to bite the bullet and up my protein. At first, I couldn't tolerate those protein shakes but I've recently discovered that I can handle them now. I've had problems finding one that suited my tastes. The recipe using orange Crystal Light to make one taste like an orange dreamsicle was much better than I expected. I think about all we can do about the hair loss it to be hypervigilant about getting in our protein.

1. Many see some hair loss at ~4 mos post op 2. Use Nioxin shampoo at time of surgery and continue, not just after it starts 3. Take Biotin 4. hair loss today reflects protein intake 2 mos ago

I lost hair like crazy about 5 months afte surgery. It started to grow back but stopped at about an inch. It drove me crazy but after almost 2 years it is growing back. I did get plenty of protein so I don't know why I had such a problem. A friend's hair fell out but grew back curly!
