You just have to do the very best you can every day as it is the most important factor for you after WLS. If you can't get down solids or it is not part of your diet yet, keep on with protein shakes, puddings, protein bullets, cottage cheese, flaky fish, tuna fish- a 3 oz can has 20 gms protein, Atkins shakes, peanut butter, etc. Remember, that is ok for now, but eventually you will have to be eating chunky foods that keep your pouch full for satiety. Best of luck and hang in there, Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC, CLC Hope this hel

My standbys were and still are cottage cheese and scrambled eggs. Both are mild and mushy and easy on my stomach. I count my protein grams each day and use shakes to supplement when needed.

Joy, I am right there with you... I live on cottage cheese and egg substitute. I am on mechanical soft food now and have added chicken and turkey. I like peanut butter but my nut says no way. I am not able to get any protein drink down. It doesn't matter the flavor. I am to have 60 grams of protein. Found a jello from bariwise on bariatricchoice.com that is good. I like the cherry. It is 15 grams of protein.

Hey Joy, I've found the protein shots from GNC. Don't know if they're GOOD protein, but I've been doing those and a new drink, has 51 on the front of it, that I found at Discount Sports Nutrition. Scrambled eggs, at least the ones from my work cafeteria, always seem to get "stuck"... bleh! Oh, there's a bar they sell at Walgreen's, too.. Detour bars? It wasn't bad. Just wish I could get more protein foods down without getting them stuck.

You have to use a protein shake to get in the amount needed. You should be consuming 2 shakes a day...Remeber your body only absorbs 20-30 grams at a time, so don't go crazy! lol You can make a shake and drink it over a period of time if you like...I have one in the a.m. and one in the evening, mixed with flavored water. I am 5 months out and eat 2 ounces per meal, so I have cut the usual 1 scoop per shake back to 1/2. And the protein sources you should be consuming have about 7 grams per ounce...so if you are eating 3 meals. thats 21 there...then a shake in the a.m. ..20 grams and one in the evening..20 g equals about what you need.

Hi Joy, I agree with all the previous posts, and just wanted to add a little thing. As long as we have to sip all day long to get at least 64oz of liquids in, I add in each of my 3 daily water bottles a packet of Kellogg's protein water mix. Each packet has 5g of protein, no sugar, no fat, 5g of fiber, very low sodium, and 30 calories. It gives me 15g of protein a day just by drinking my water, and it tastes good! It's important to get about 60g of protein a day and as much as you can in a solid form, but if you get 45g of it in a solid form, plus your veggies, you'll get full. Good luck!
