Question:
Anyone have problems down the road with liquidy stools?

I had lap 4/08. I've had no problems and am only 20 lbs away from my goal. Last Sunday my stomach started all gurgly ended up having the runs for 3 days and got admitted to the hospital with what they said was a partial bowel obstruction (it wasn't that at all). I had a good old fashioned viral infection but had to be admitted regardless because of dehydration for 5 days (3 before admission 2 after). I was released Sunday and here we are Thursday and I'm back to square one again. Hopefully it doesn't become a long term thing like last week. Ok so my question is... has anyone else gone thru this or am I just a case of murphy's law of viruses. Thanks Danielle    — Danielle T. (posted on October 15, 2008)

I don't think I have a "virus" but I routinely have the symptoms mentioned in the Alli weight loss adds--When I have to go, I have to go NOW.

I have leaned toward loose stools since surgery in 06. I had LapBand, I'm assuming you had RNY. Has your stool been tested for c-difficile? Dawn

Thanks for the responses. I went back to the doctor this morning because I was doubled over in pain... I have salmonella poisoning which I've apparently had since I was in the hospital. I don't understand how they could release me without having all the test results come back. So they've put me on antibiotics and bed rest. Oh and in answer to the type of surgery it was Lap but not RNY. Thank you both!

I don't have an answer for your question but appreciate the post. I will be mindful now of the potential of how serious a viral infection can be to someone who has had WLS including the side affect of dehydration. I too had WLS in 04/08 and am 28 LB from my goal. Your ahead :)

This happened to me also. I had lap RNY in Sept of 2006. I was about 9 months out and struggled with this over several more months. Some days were good, others with loose stools. It turns out my gallbladder was not functioning. I have it removed in Oct. of 2007. No more issue with this since. It is common for your gallbladder to stop working after significant weight loss.

First you need to keep your immune system at the highest level possible due to your lower nutritional intake. This can be done with a good powerful "liquid" vitamin / mineral supplement like VEMMA. Very high in antioxidants. Second, VEMMA is high in fiber and will result in stools that are "round, firm, and fully packed" (sorry for the vivid description). Third, you need to take a pro-biotic to constantly replenish the good bacteria in your digestive tract. There is a good "cheap" one at WAL MART called "Bio Salud". Cost $0.88 for pack of 5 bottles,2 oz.each. Take one a day. For VEMMA go to www.TrySomeVemma.com Register and receive info on Nutriton Program.
