What is the best shampoo to use to prevent hair loss after surgery?

There is not any surefire solution to the hair loss unfortunately, but you
can strenghthn your hair.
Nioxin has recharge vitamins and hair shampoo/cond. you don't have to use
this everyday, every other would be fine because it is costly. Another
brand is Nexxus. They have a vitress line with vitamins and shampoo/cond,
again not everyday for the shampoo and conditioners, but you can take the
vitamins daily. I have been and and I am 3 months out so, I think it is
time that I should start seeing loss and I have not yet, but I am expecting
it. :) but I think I have done a good job to assist in maintaining good
vitamins and hair supplements.

I never tried it...I was aware that this was a common issue after surgery
and let nature take it's course. It finally stopped and my hair grew back.
I have no proof that this works, or not but have heard of it if you want to
read the FAQ's sheet here on NIOXIN
shampoo...http://www.nioxin.com/en/products/faq/general-questions

Tammy, while I'm not an expert I don't believe there is ANY shampoo that
will prevent hair loss. My doctor has told me the best thing to do is make
sure you have adequate protein intake every day. I do know that you can
supplement with biotin to help. Hope this helps.

No shampoo is going to prevent hair loss whether you have surgery or not.
The hair grows from the inside out and is fed from the blood in your body.
The hair loss is inevitable with gastric bypass. If you have the band you
dont lose your hair

I was banded on 4/29/08 and have been experiencing hair loss. I am now
taking Biotin and a pre-natal vitamin that both seem to be helping. These
are in addition to my multi-vitamin and calcium each day. Just be sure to
get the protein in.

I read somewhere that shampoos can't affect hair loss. What may help is
what you take in through diet... I have been taking 5000mg of Biotin daily
and it seems to have *significantly* slowed my hair loss. Plus, get in your
protein, multi-vitamins, and water. Best wishes.

I am a hair stylist and have sold Nioxin for over 3 years.. My bf who was
recideing also used Nioxin... This stuff is amazing and no NIOXIN is more
expensive but its 39.99-42.99 for a liter.. Since it is so concentrated a
liter of nioxin should last at least 4 months my bf has had his for almost
a year.. not much left but a year!!!

Hi, I am still a pre-op person, so although I have not experienced all of
the problems and benefits of GBS, I have had hair problems in the past.
(Mostly due to hair coloring, foiling, and all the other crap that we women
tend to use to make ourselves beautiful!) OK, so here is the Low down.
Check out www.lush.com (not LUST :P ). It is in the Providence Place Mall
for anyone near/in RI. Check out the Cynthia Sylvia Stout Shampoo and
Retread Conditioner. It has been so terriffic for my hair! I used to get
handful of hair out at any given time. Now I hardly get 1 or 2 strands
out!!!! I will tell you that I do not like the smell of the products, each
to their own, but what I will tell you is that your hair smells CLEAN, not
like the product! Give it a try, you will be surprised! (And for the cost,
if you are the only one using it, then it will last a LONG time!) Good
Luck! ~DaisyN132 (AOL IM screen name too)

Shampoo won't do it but what I found is Hair Skin and Nail supplement. I
had a Zinc deficancy and when I tried to take just Zinc with copper it
upset my stomach. But HSN has just enough Zinc in it. I lost alot of hair
but when I started to take HSN it stopped falling out and now is growing
back in. So my suggestion is Zinc in some form. You can get HSN on the
internet just search for it.
Good Luck

"LUSH" is a great product line, if you don't have a store near
you their website is www.lush.com. I was at the mall this week and had to
talk myself out of going in that store because I knew I'd walk out with a
shopping bag full :)
I also have been taking these supplements: Nature's Bounty
Skin, Hair & Nails, Tablets - 60 ea (3 a day dose), or Nature's Bounty
Vitamins for the Hair, Tablets - 65 (1 a day) from www.drugstore.com.
I had lap band on 4/14/08 and have not noticed hair loss but as someone
else said, I do a good job of overproccessing my hair at times. Plus, I
have not been dropping weight dramatically fast.
I think the most important thing is to get enough protein.

I never found a shampoo that worked. I am 7 months post-op and my hair
REALLY started falling out at about 2-3 months and it stopped at about 5
months or so. I asked my doctor about it and he said to make sure I get my
protein in. Voila! I made sure to increase my protein and I take Biotin
pills and my hair doesn't fall out anymore.

Protein, protein, protein and iron. I am not an expert, I do not have an
M.D. behind my name, so if you don't want to believe me then that's ok.
Protein and iron. Protein and iron. In addition to the stress your body
is going to suffer and it's metabolic changes. I hope I'm not sounding
bossy, I really am not intending to be, just want to be helpful. Good
luck.
